28 June – Happy Birthday, Sang Zhi

It is Sang Zhi’s 19th Birthday which she spent with Duan Jiaxu who had arranged what they will be doing.

They went to the cinema and made sure Sang Zhi knew that he is no longer the second brother figure to her.

At first, Sang Zhi reminded him that he had always treated her as a young sister.  He asked her if she still sees him as another brother.

Sang Zhi could not answer but only looked shyly at him.

He then asked her to go to his apartment but she mentioned that he told her to stop going to his apartment and his office.

Duan Jiaxu was confused until Sang Zhi helped him recall what he said when she went to give him the safety peephole for his house.

Duan Jiaxu realised the misunderstanding and looked like Sang Zhi was affronted.  He told her that he was trying to protect her from Jiang Jing who had been going crazy harassing him at work and at home.

Sang Zhi was so glad.  Jiaxu apologised to her but she apologise to him as well for misunderstanding him.

Anyway, after the cinema, he took her to his house which he had decorated beforehand.  Sang Zhi was so happy to see the fairy lights and Happy Birthday banners, balloons, and cakes, one of the cakes he baked himself.

Finally, he asked her if he could woo her.

Sang Zhi said he could try but she was not sure of her answer.  They just have to wait and see if he could court her into liking him.  She remembered her roommates advising her to play hard to get.

Duan Jiaxu promised to woo her for as long as it takes.  His only condition was that she should not look at other boys anymore.

These two are just the cutest.

The courtship started but it did not pan as romantic as was expected because Duan Jiaxu got very busy with work.

Due to these circumstances, the arranged dates he made with Sang Zhi were always canceled at the last minute.

Sang Zhi was very understanding but she was beginning to feel rather taken for granted.

Duan Jiaxu was really feeling low as well especially when added to the hectic task at work,  his comatose father had turned for the worst and needed surgery.  Duan Jiaxu was feeling defeated and asked the medical staff if his father will ever pull through.

The doctor told him that there is always hope.

His father had been comatose for the last nine years since he tried to commit suicide after his hit-and-run while under the influence of alcohol.

His wife and Jiaxu convinced him to surrender to the police but he opted to jump in their second-floor window which did not kill him but put him in a coma.

The dead victim of the hit-and-run was Jiang Jing’s father.  Poor Duan Jiaxu and his mother did everything they can to pay off the compensation as well as the father’s hospitalisation.

Duan Jiaxu offered to quit school so he could earn money more and quicker but his mother said over her dead body.

Duan Jiaxu was only in his first few months in college in Nanwu when his mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer.  He borrowed 30,000 from Sang Rong and Li Peng for his mother’s hospitalisation.

But his mother died anyway.

Duan Jiaxu is physically tired and weary but then he received a text form the only beam of light in his life.  He asked Sang Zhi to go out to dinner with him.

When she turned up, she was wearing the fox bracelet he gave her.  Though her roommates teased her that it looked more like a mouse rather than a fox.

Duan Jiaxu said that it seems they are official as she was wearing the bracelet.  Sang Zhi was non-commital at first but he was so beguiling but she did say that he was not really courting her well.

He promised that he would do better and turned up in one of her lectures the next morning.  They are so adorable.
