The grand ballroom shimmered with opulence, its crystal chandeliers casting a thousand fractured rainbows across the polished marble floor. Noah's party was a symphony of tailored suits and glittering gowns, a celebration of his latest deal, a deal that had turned the tides for the company, filling the pockets of investors and elevating Noah to a position of prominence.
Noah had also Invited Neo, Charles and Adrien to be a part of this grand day.
Among the throng of well-heeled guests, Neo and Charles stood out, They navigated the crowd with practiced ease, their smiles genuine as they congratulated Noah.
Neo: Congratulations brother!
Noah: Thank you. How are you both doing?
Charles: We are good. Way to go big brother!
Noah smiled and looked in the crowd for Adrien. He went to greet another guest and waited for Adrien to appear. When Adrien finally materialized, he was accompanied by Rome.
Noah's heart clenched.
Bittersweetness hung in the air like the scent of roses, and he offered Adrien a smile that held a universe of unspoken words. Yet, before he could utter a greeting, the spotlight shifted to Noah.
It was time for his speech, a moment he'd rehearsed, but one that now felt insignificant in the wake of Adrien's arrival.
As Noah spoke, his eyes darted toward Adrien, who stood at the periphery, laughing with Rome. The words flowed mechanically from Noah's lips, but his mind was elsewhere tracing the contours of Adrien's face, the curve of his lips. He longed to reach out, to bridge the gap that had grown between them, but the crowd swallowed him whole.
The applause faded, and Noah's gaze sought Adrien once more. He stepped forward to have a chat with Adrien.
But Adrien was lost in Rome's orbit, their laughter a melody that Noah couldn't join. He watched them, the way Rome's hand brushed Adrien's, the way Adrien's laughter danced like sunlight on water.
And in that moment, Noah knew he was a mere footnote in Adrien's story.
He hesitated to take more steps forward. Memories surged a montage of stolen glances. Noah recalled of the times where Adrien smiled whenever Rome was around him. He then compared to the times when Adrien was with him. He realised that Adrien is always crying when Noah keeps him company but it's not the case with Rome.
Adrien's laughter had once been Noah's refuge, but now it was Rome who held the key to that joy.
Noah stepped back, retreating to the shadowed corner of the room. His fingers closed around a crystal tumbler, and he poured himself a drink, a bitter elixir to match his heart.
The ballroom spun around him, He raised the glass to his lips, the burn of whiskey a welcome distraction.
Adrien's laughter echoed, and Noah wondered if he'd ever be the cause of it. Perhaps Rome is the better choice, the sun to Adrien's moon, the laughter to his tears.
And so, Noah drank alone, a solitary figure in a room teeming with life. The clink of glasses and the swell of music faded into a distant hum. He closed his eyes, and for a fleeting moment, he allowed himself to mourn for lost chances, unspoken love, and the ache of a heart that beat out of sync with the world.
In that corner, Noah became a footnote, a silent witness to Adrien's happiness.
And as the night wore on, he wondered if love was ever meant to be fair, or if it was simply a cruel game of timing and missed opportunities.
