When I first had the idea for this fairy tale, it was about four months after I first saw "The Little Mermaid" (2023) in the theater. Mermaids have fascinated me since I first saw the 1992 version starring Jodi Benson when I was three, and it has been one of my top five favorites for years. These wondrous mythical beings will forever change the way I view the ocean, which I always thought would be a scary place, but living a lifetime surrounded by beautiful lifeforms? What isn't to love?
