Dear Diary,
You know that horrible sinking feeling in your stomach when Ravenzella is attacking you and you don't know whether you're going to make it or not? When you're terrified because grim magic is swirling all around and you don't know where it's going to strike? 🌀
That's how I felt today.
I'm hiding out right now, please don't ask why, I'll get into it later I promise. I'm crashing on the couch in the common room and whenever I hear movement, I just hide. Usually I'm so bad at being quiet, but right now, it's eerie to find out just how silent I can be. 🤫
I just need to make it until the morning and then it'll all be okay! I hope.
Earlier tonight I woke everyone up so that we could go get Sophia. It was such a frenzy when I told them that she had gone for a walk and never came back. It was the worst thing ever to have to tell them that I didn't know where she was over and over again. 😢
First I went to Isabel and Layla's room and they were on board for the rescue mission right away, and after we woke Rory up, he was too. Valentina was a little bit trickier, she refused to open the door for us because "Ughhh Rory, you better not be pranking me again!", but once she did, she got dressed more quickly than the rest of us.
And I've never snuck out before, you know that! I'm always back in my room before curfew and even if I have trouble falling asleep, I'm still in bed! But today for the first time (or was it last night? – either one!) I snuck out! 😣
Rory ripped all the sheets off of our beds and tied them together. He wrapped it around the pillar on mine and Sophia's balcony and the sheets dangled terrifyingly to the ground. I've always been afraid of heights and that was before we almost plummeted to our deaths when the bridge to the Crystal Caverns broke! The ground was so far away and I'm not usually the first one to take the plunge, but Layla and Isabel had to hold me back while Rory secured the sheets.
The fabric burned my hand as I climbed to the ground but it's like I was incapable of fear for myself at that moment. We all made it safely down and there was nothing we could do about how the sheets whipped around in the wind. The teachers would know that we snuck out and trouble would probably be waiting for us. We just raced to the stables because that was a tomorrow problem. 🤷🏾♀️
I thought our unicorns would be unsettled to be woken up in the middle of the night, but they were all wide awake. They were restlessly hoofing the ground and neighed to us urgently. They were worried about Wildstar and Sophia and they'd been waiting for us! Leaf pushed her nose into my palm when I unlocked her stall and stood with all of her strong muscles poised as I saddled her.
We bolted through the doors and didn't even bother to close them behind us. It didn't take us long to find Wildstar's hoof prints. We tracked them past the Shimmerstone Wall, past the snapping flowers, further and further until we came to a rocky cliffside above Unicorn Beach. All of us halted at the edge and watched with horror as down below, in the middle of all the sand, Sophia and Wildstar were all alone fighting off a giant crab and her army! It would've been hilarious if their enemies weren't radiating a sinister aura, glowing an unnatural purple and black.
The crabs were infected by grim magic! 🦀🟣⚫
"Whoa," Rory said as we all looked at the beach stunned beyond words, "This is new."
"You can say that again." Isabel said.
Sophia was losing her battle against the biggest crab of all, a queen in comparison to the little crabs that surged around her. The Queen had unseated Sophia from Wildstar's saddle and was holding her upside down, one of Sophia's legs clamped between her claws. Sophia yelled and squirmed, trying with all her might to break free. 👑😨
