Jennie is left to her thoughts when everyone left the room. She looked around the room trying to figure out where the hell she is. Her leg was propped up on a couple of pillows. Everything hurt. Her ribs, her throat, her knee, and worst of all her head. She couldn't think straight with the throbbing in her head. She grabbed the wire with a red button on the end of it and pressed it.
A nurse came into the room a few moments later. "Mrs. Kim, is everything okay?" She asks
"Everything hurts." She says weakly as she lays her head back against the pillow and closes her eyes
The nurse goes over to the machine next to her. She takes a look at her medical chart. "Okay, I'm going to up your pain medicine. It will likely make you drowsy for a few hours but you'll feel more comfortable," she says
Jennie nods and watches as the nurse gives her the pain medicine.
"Is there anything else I can do for you?" She asks
"Can you turn off some of the lights? my head is killing me." Jennie says
The nurse closes the blinds and shuts off the lights that were directly over her bed.
"Thank you," Jennie says as she curls up on her side
"I'll be back in an hour to try and get some food in you." She says
Jennie nods
Rosie and their group of people were lead to a small room after leaving Jennie's room. It was a family consult room. The doctor gestured for them all to take a seat. He looked around the table and then directed his attention towards Rosie.
"Mrs. Kim, as you know your wife had suffered severe head trauma from the crash. Nobody could have predicted this outcome. We were just in an O.R. ready to donate her organs... it's a miracle that she's awake right now." He says
"Why doesn't she remember me?" Rosie asks
"Retrograde Amnesia. It can occur after a traumatic head injury. It causes loss of memories that were formed prior to the head injury." Claire says
"Will she get them back?" Indra asks
"She may gain partial memories or she could gain all of them back over time.... or she may never retain them. There's no real way to know. Time will tell." The doctor says
"What can we do to help her?" Rosie asks
"The best thing you can do for her is to try and pick her life back up where it was before the accident. From her living situation to work. It may help jog her memories to be in a familiar setting with people she knew and were around in her day-to-day life. It is imperative that you do not overwhelm her with information though. Ease her into it." He says
Rosie swallows and nods
"So what comes next?" Jisoo asks
"We are going to be keeping her for observation until we can get her pain management under control. She is heavily medicated currently and we need to get her to a more manageable place before we can send her home. Her broken ribs should be healed in another two weeks. Your wife had a history of injury to her knee prior to the accident. Did she play any sports?" The doctor asks
"Yes, she played soccer in high school and college. She got hurt and had to stop playing." She says
"The torn ligament in her knee should heal on its own in a few weeks. Try and keep her off it as much as possible. I am suggesting physical therapy so she can try and regain as much range of motion and strength in her knee as possible." He says
"Miller is a physical therapist here. I can get her set up with him." Claire says
Rosie nods "That would be great mom. Thank you." She says
