Friday came, and I was super nervous. I tried to convince myself that I wasn't nervous, even if I was, because this was such a huge client opportunity and not Kian himself. However, the closer the clock ticked to two o'clock I had to stop lying to myself and admit the truth.

Seraphina was beyond smug as I told her about this turn of fate with Kian. She never said it, but I'm sure she was thinking the whole time that it was destined to be. She always got that all-knowing look off her face when we were on Facetime. I always FaceTimed her when the kids were in bed or out somewhere. Since they were involved in so many activities, I had a lot of time in between until they would get out. I had made friends with one of the moms with kids in the same activities, so sometimes I could get her to bring the kids, or mom picked them up for me.

She said, "So I wonder why he wants such a large home if he is single?" I shrugged and said, "Maybe he hopes to have a family one day." Through the phone, I felt she was giving me a pointed look, and I just said, "Hush." She said, "I didn't say a word," then laughed. I rolled my eyes and said, "It doesn't matter. I'm just here to sell this man a house, and then we can go our separate ways." Seraphina said, "Are you sure? I mean, he's back home now; don't you think you'll probably run into him a lot more?" I said, "I highly doubt we run in the same circles. He's worried about groupies, games, and fame; I'm more about books, hobbies, and fuzzy house shoes." She laughed and said, "I don't know. You were always good at taming the beast. I think if it were you, he would be more just games and coming home at night." I said, "Doesn't matter; it's not going to be me. Period." I saw her skeptical look through the phone, but she didn't say anything else.

When I told her I was meeting him on Friday, her eyebrow raised, but she just casually said, "Well, it's supposed to be nice on Friday; wear something cute." I glared at her, but she looked back at me innocently and said, "What?"

I am ashamed to say that her words got to me, though. I found myself on Friday afternoon wearing a sexy black satin spaghetti strap dress with a slight peek of cleavage and showed a nice amount of leg. I threw on a black blazer over it until it was time to go to put some sort of professionalism to it. I gave myself loose curls that laid prettily around my shoulders. My makeup was mostly natural, with dramatic eyeliner and mascara to make them look full (I couldn't get with the false eyelash trend) and a shiny nude lip gloss. I only wore cut gold cute earrings, diamond studs in my other ear piercings, and a little diamond bracelet set in gold, feeling that the dress was a statement itself and didn't need any excessive decoration. I paired it with black chunky heeled sandals.

My mom was at the house when I was getting ready to leave, and when she saw me, she raised an eyebrow. She and Seraphina had very similar mindsets regarding Kian and me, so when I told her he was now my client, I swear she looked as if Christmas had come early. She had been dropping little slick comments since I told her, so I knew she had something to say about my outfit.

I tried to see if I could get out of her teasing and immediately went to her and said, "Hey, Mom, so the kids should be home around six tonight. I have leftovers in the fridge if you don't feel like cooking, or I can send some money, and you can order a pizza; you know they like to have movie nights on Friday. I won't be out too late."

She kept eyeing me and said, "Uh huh, sure, sweetie—no need to rush home. I'm sure you guys would like to catch up over dinner or something. You look beautiful. One would think you were going on a date." I ignored her comment and said, "Well, goodnight, Mom, have fun; love you." I grabbed my small black Prada purse, Chanel briefcase with my portfolio inside, and keys and made a beeline for the door. I had almost made it, but as I closed the door behind me, I heard her say, "Have fun on your date and tell Kian I said hi!" I groaned and slammed it a little bit harder than necessary.
