Sometime later I felt the truck slowing, it roused me from my nap.
I blinked, my bleary eyes trying to get used to the change in light, which was surprisingly not that different.
I uncurled and stretched with a groaning sigh, glancing around, seeing the setting sun outside the window.
Hmm, I was hungry. I hadn't eaten since lunch yesterday and my stomach rumbled in agreement.
I sat up on Sten's lap, glancing back at him, seeing him focusing on the road, his hands adjusting the wheel constantly.
Thinking about it the ride felt rougher than it had before and trees pressed close to the windows of the truck, the occasional branch tapping on the glass.
I pushed up onto my back legs, pressing my front paws to his chest and getting a better look out of the window, the forest was dense and dark past the glass, the sky a deep orange above it.
"Enjoy your nap?" Sten asked me and I looked up at his face, his eyes briefly meeting mine before going back to the road.
I purred in reply. Good.
I sniffed the air, trying to get passed Dominicus' pungent musk and Sten's own scent that smelt like wood and something sweet.
I couldn't smell anything edible.
I lowered myself back to his lap and sniffed again, one paw pressing against the soft leather bench between Sten and Dominicus.
"What are you looking for?" Dominicus' low voice inquired, still sounding grumpy from his earlier conversation with Sten, however long ago that was.
"He's probably hungry, his parents said he ran away about 2ish yesterday right? I doubt he's eaten since then." Sten answered for me.
I liked Sten, he understood me, I'd like him even more if he had some food stashed somewhere.
"I think we're all hungry, we've been driving for hours." Dominicus groaned in annoyance and rubbed his stomach.
"You're always hungry." Sten rolled his eyes. "We're almost home, another ten minutes maybe." He guessed.
Just like Sten said he pulled to a stop in a clearing about ten minutes later and I saw a large house in the fading light. It looked like a huge log cabin, big enough to be a hotel.
Not that I'd ever seen one, but I'd seen pictures.
Sten turned off the engine and I hissed when Dominicus tried to reach out a grab me.
I backed up and wedged myself between Sten and the driver's door, dragging my blanket with me, no way was I letting him get his paws on it ever again.
"Don't test me Pepper." he growled. "Or I'll use you're blanket to clean up the pups accidents."
Oh hell-fucking-no!
In my anger my body shifted and I moved so I didn't get squished, ending up laying over Sten's lap.
I glared at Dominicus. "You fucking dare and I'll bite your dick off!" I hissed, baring my fangs, my black tail whipping though the air. My black ears were half pulled back and flattened, nestled in my light-brown hair.
He seemed shocked, from my human appearance or my words, I wasn't sure, maybe even both.
"You're gorgeous." he breathed out in awe.
I'm what?!
Despite my dislike for him I felt my cheeks warm at his blatant complement.
My ears pulled back fully and I pulled my blanket over me, my tail curling around my naked frame, suddenly realising they could see everything.
