Ch. 1-Key hunt

Jax was in his room, sitting down on the floor, curled up in a ball. But Jax wasn't crying, he was just disappointed. He had been sure that the set of keys he was testing today would work, and he could escape. It was already hard enough to do this discreetly, and having to deal with the disappointment of none of the keys working was not helping. Jax got up off the floor, and thought to himself 'Maybe I could go on a key hunt?' He hadn't gotten any new keys lately, so maybe it would help with his escapade.

He had re-oiled the door earlier so it wouldn't squeak when he opened it, so he didn't have to work about slightly lifting the door while opening it. His feet were made out of a plush material, so the floor wouldn't creak, but he still tip-toed, just in case.  He checked the usual spots, like in the hole inside the tree that was close to the digital lake, and inside pipes. After three hours, Jax had found 13 keys. Jax hated the number 13, because it was very unlucky for him. He hid the keys inside of his overalls pocket, and walked back inside the circus tent.

"Where were you?" Ragatha questioned once she saw him. "Nunya, Dollface." Jax answers with a grain of salt.  "Stop being such a b#&!%, Jax." Zooble says. Jax is secretly hurt by these words, but doesn't show it. "How about.. No." Jax retorts. The situation escalates until Jax is secretly fuming, and Zooble is on top of Jax, about to give a blow to the face. Jax uses his legs to flip Zooble off of him, and gets up, dashing to his room and slamming the door.

Jax screams into his pillow for a bit and then resorts to doing something he hasn't done since he first got into the circus. He opens his window and climbs out, heading for the digital lake again. Once he gets there, he looks up towards the trees that surround the lake, and starts wandering around. He sees the tree house he built when he first came here. He climbs up the ladder, and sees all the things he had collected when he built the tree house. Jax sees his old music player, and looks through the songs, and presses the button that plays the song 'Everyday' by Bo En.

While the song is playing, he grabs a pack of cigarettes. He hasn't smoked in a while. He finds a lighter on the floor, and lights a cigarette. Jax smokes for a while, and then puts out his cigarette. He grabs the music player and turns off the music, putting it in his pocket with the keys. He climbs down the ladder and walks back to his window. Jax climbs back in and goes to bed because it was pretty late.
