I play on my phone as Dad does the dishes. I'm trying to think of any way to get my dad to talk about my mom. Anything about her. My dad's too smart though; he'd find out immediately. "What are you thinking about, Melinoe?" Dad asks. I look over at him. "Thinking about what costume I want to get for my character. There are two costumes I want, one is 3,000 coins, the other is 6,000 coins," I say, not really lying. "How many coins do you have?" Dad keeps washing the dishes. "12,095," I reply. "Hmm. Well, which one do you like better?" I think for a second. "The 3,000 one." "Then get that one and save if you want another," Dad says as he starts to dry the dishes. "Okay, Dad, thank you for your help." "Glad to help." This is something I do when I need something to talk about when I don't want Dad to know that I'm planning something. I distract with something useless.
6:00 am.
I get up and rinse out the mug I'm using. I leave it in the sink, I go to the living room and decide to watch TV. I put on a YouTube video where a guy is playing a game. Dad is behind me checking his hair in the mirror. My dad gets his 'man' purse ready, he gets his keys, wallet, phone, and key card. "I'm heading to work now." Dad walks over to me and kisses my forehead. I smile. "Be careful, Dad." He smiles back at me. "I will." He leaves. Now just to try and get around Jill to Dad's office.
Jill is cleaning my room and going through everything in it. I draw something real quick. I go upstairs past my room and just as I'm about to touch the doorknob to Dad's office, I hear "what are you doing?" I jump and look over; it's Jill, looking emotionless as ever. "I drew Dad something, I want to put it in his office as a surprise," I say, showing her the drawing. "Okay then. I'm sure he'll like it," Jill says emotionlessly and walks away. I open the door to the black, gold, and brown office. I enter the room looking around. I'm not allowed in the office usually. There are several bookcases filled with books on science, biology, and other things. I put the drawing on his desk and start looking around the office. I look through drawers in the desk, the three filing cabinets. Nothing. I walk to one of the bookcases. I see a photo hanging up on the wall; I look closely. It's of something called S.T.A.R.S. Dad is in the middle with his sunglasses like usual; his hair is slicked back too. "How has his hair not snapped off yet?" I mutter to myself.
I take a picture of the photo using my phone. I continue looking around the office, nothing still. I leave the office and shut the door. I go to my room as Jill is leaving it. She doesn't say anything, and I don't say anything either.
