not so coincidental
"is that changbin?" your head instantly snaps up at the question, looking in the direction your friend was pointing.
"it is." you nod, looking back towards the shelf. your friend scoffs.
"you can go talk to him." she laughs.
"no, i don't want to leave you." you shake your head, trying your hardest to not look at the man that had been occupying your mind the whole trip.
"i'll be fine. just go talk to him." she assures you, practically pushing you in his direction. he of course, instantly looks up when he sees you stumble towards him.
"hey, you okay?" he questions, placing his hand on your arm to steady you.
"i'm fine." you giggle, making no effort to remove his hand.
"so how's the trip?" he asks, furrowing his brows at your slight frown when he finally does remove his hand.
"it's going good! honestly, i just can't believe we leave in two days." you pout even more.
"it feels like you just got here, huh?" he nods sadly. wondering in the back of his mind if he'd ever get to see you again. he didn't want to intrude on your vacation with your friend, but he's been dying to see you. and unfortunately for him, you weren't here for much longer.
"yeah... i'll definitely have to come back though. there's still so much left to do." you tell him.
"maybe you could just extend the trip?" he suggests, not really caring if he sounded desperate. he still had yet to understand the strange connection he felt towards you, and he didn't know if he'd be okay if he never found out.
"i wish. but she has to get back to work, and i can't stay either." you kept your words vague. it was nearing the time for you to move on, the time you dreaded the most. leaving those you got close with so that you don't compromise your identity.
back in the day you heard of immortals being executed, but these days, it seemed much worse. talk of immortals being taken hostage by government scientists, and experimented on, tortured. the thought made you shiver. you didn't agree with the old school execution style either— but at least it was more merciful than what they do these days. unfortunately, it meant you couldn't stay in one place for too long.
"how come?" an innocent question, but to someone like you, the way you answered could be the difference between freedom, and imprisonment.
okay— maybe you were overthinking a little.
"just... family." you shrug. changbin's mind instantly running wild at the mention of a family. family meant two things to him.
one being that you weren't like him— not immortal. immortals don't have families.
two being that you had ties that were impossible to break away from, which was something he, as an immortal, could not get involved with.
all in all he felt his heart break.
"i understand." he smiles, despite the tightening of his chest. he felt silly feeling so heartbroken over someone he just met. it wasn't like him to get attached easily. you weren't like him, so what was up with this strange connection?
"changbin?" you question, waving a hand in front of his face. he had seemed to zone out.
"what? sorry..." he clears his throat, rubbing his arm awkwardly.
"i asked if you wanted to have dinner with us tonight?" you repeat your question, silently hoping that your friend would be okay with it.
you just felt like this would be the last time you saw changbin, and you wanted it to be memorable. it wasn't often you liked someone as much as you did him, and though you found it strange, you were going to indulge in it while you could. before you had to run off, make a new life somewhere.
"i'd love to, actually." he answers happily. "do you guys have a place picked out or do you want me to pick?"
"actually it'd be cool if you could. show us one of the good places, you know?" you smirk, nudging him with your elbow. "come on! i should formally introduce you to my friend." you giggle, not hesitating before you grab his hand, lacing your fingers with his. it just felt natural, and of course, changbin had no complaints.
he honestly felt like he would follow you anywhere.
