Was there a tinge of hope in Marks eyes when he finally saw Crystal come home? possibly.
As Crystal pulled into the driveway she could see Mark sitting on his suitcase waiting for her with his eyes low to the ground. She hadn't changed the locks before she left, why is he sitting outside ? "Where's your key" she asked coldly not even stepping out of the car yet. He didn't reply immediately but he sat a moment to gather his thoughts, he knew that one misspoken word could set her over the edge again. "Y-you didn't pack my key when you gave me my things." His voice shook, was he actually afraid of her? Or was he just afraid of losing her money. See Crystal's family had plenty of funds and she was always well off. She could have just about anything she wanted all she had to do was ask, and Mark had become accustomed to that lifestyle. The two of them rarely asked for the handouts, though her parents were ready and willing to shovel out any amount of money to make their baby happy. Now that their relationship is on a slippery slope Mark must be realizing that he'll actually have to fend for himself again. He almost didn't finish college but because of the good graces of Crystal's family his tuition and loans seemed to disappear, the house is in Crystals name because of his finical instability. (Make sure you remember this)
As Crystal got out of the car her black stilettos clacked against the pavement and the keys in her hand sang a musical of cynical and sarcastic joy. She unlocked the door and walked back to her car before looking back at Mark, still sitting on his suitcase as if he was a child in time out. "Go inside, make yourself comfortable, I'll be back in a couple hours with a few things for you" as she spoke she made her way closer and closer to her car until finally she was inside and driving down the block.
Mark walked inside the house, he was confused with what to do with himself next. It didn't feel like his house anymore, well in fact it never was, but it didn't feel like home. He wanted to make himself something to eat and because Ms.SweetLips doesn't cook very well he hadn't had a decent meal since the beginning of the weekend. Mark walked into the kitchen and began to rummage through the refrigerator, he was slowly regaining his comfortability. As he took out the ingredients to make himself a sandwich he saw the bottle of Crown Apple and his heart sank yet again, he felt his blood run cold and all he could do was think about Friday night; how he messed up so terribly. How was he going to make this up to her, there isn't much he could say and with the wedding approaching soon there wasn't much he could do. Then his thoughts stopped and he reveled in the last words he heard Crystal speak "I'll have a few things for you" was she going to file for divorce, no that's not possible, they aren't even married yet. Was she going to keep planning the wedding, maybe it's menus for the tables which they still haven't decided seating for. He closed the refrigerator with his foot as he turned around and settled for an apple out of the fruit bowl on the counter. As he took s bite he walked into the living room and turned on the tv, ESPN. About 4 hours had passed before Crystal finally came home, she had several bags and boxes in her hands that she sat down on the counter then went back to the car to unload more boxes. Mark was apprehensive but walked over the the boxes anyway to see what they contained. To his surprise it was seating charts, menus, place cards; everything that they had been talking about for the wedding. Now Mark was completely lost, Crystals actions over the passed weekend, her attitude, their lack of communication; everything pointed in the direction of the wedding being called off. As he picked up a program he saw something that stopped his heart. "Today, please join us as we wed in holy matrimony, Crystal Elvor & Natalie Barker" he couldn't believe what he was reading. Had he suddenly become dyslexic and misunderstood something? "Wh-what is this?!" He ran to the foyer meeting her halfway from the door, boxes still in her hands she smiled "It's the material for my wedding, silly, what does it look like".
