Sophie's heart raced as she tried to get away from the fight for a moment, she needed to recharge for a moment or she would pass out. She was able to stop for a few seconds, which was all she could get, since then a goblin throwing star went right past her leg. Then she heard Keefe yell, and she couldn't let him get hurt, he already had gone through so much, he was fighting his own mother, he may say he doesn't care, but he always will, a bit. She suddenly got a rush of energy

As the sounds of yells and weapons echoed around her, Sophie found her trigger for enhancing and chose to enhance Linh, the one closest to her, who moved gracefully with water flowing all around her, drowning out the noise, and stopping weapons in their track. After that happened, Sophie inflicted upon the enemies, who fell to the ground, as the water fell to the ground, and her enemies began to lay still, no longer writhing in pain, her vision began to blur. Voices began to echo trying to ask her if she was okay, she realised that something had hit her, there was a searing pain in her leg. The last thing she saw as she began to go limp, was Keefe on the ground bleeding, with a huge gash right over his heart.

Sophie blacked out, and then, heard a voice, she didn't know whose, but it was familiar, and calming. Then she heard "Keefe might not make it" and she panicked, opening her eyes, which began burning as the light from the room glared from all around. Eventually, everything around her began to have color and shape again, and she could see where she was. The healing center, again, with Elwin, Edaline, Alden, Fitz, Grady, and Biana standing around another cot, so she couldn't tell who it was. But she still knew, "Is he okay?" she said, her voice dry and quiet, obviously she had been out for a while, she knew that happened and wasn't fazed by it. "Sophie?" Biana said, turning around quickly, and coming over to say "Elwin didn't think you would wake up for another couple days," she seemed relieved, but Sophie noticed that when someone said 'another' it normally meant she had been out for at least 4 days, but Biana continued "I guess his medicine worked better than he thought it would."

"Sophie, thank goodness I was so worried, you've been out for ages," Edaline said, right after Biana finished.

"Wait, how long was I out?"

"Only 3 days," Biana said, "she's just been really worried."

Sophie took in the worried faces of her friends and family as she tried to sit up, feeling weak but determined. Her mind raced with questions about what had happened, especially regarding Keefe. She knew she needed to find out more, to make sure he was okay. Elwin approached her, a mix of relief and concern evident in his kind eyes.

"You gave us all quite a scare, Sophie," Elwin said softly. "But you're a tough one. You're going to be just fine."

Sophie nodded, grateful for the reassurance, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Keefe. She needed to know more, to understand the situation fully. With a deep breath, she gathered her strength and asked, "Can someone please tell me what's going on with Keefe? Is he going to be okay?"

The room fell silent for a moment before Edaline spoke up, her voice filled with compassion. "He's still fighting, Sophie. Elwin is doing everything he can for him. We're all hoping for the best."

"But, well, he may need surgery-" Elwin said, but Sophie interrupted.

"Is it because the injury was close to his heart?"

"Yes, but fortunately it didn't hit any vital organs, but he has suffered a lot of blood loss, but we aren't sure if we should do the surgery."

"Why not, wouldn't it just be stitches, if nothing aside from blood loss occurred, we just need to prevent more."

"Well, yes, but surgery is incredibly risky, it can often result in major damage."

Sophie was shocked by this, could humans do more than elves, with some of the most advanced medical technology she has ever seen?

"Do you guys, not get surgery?"

"Wait, Sophie, you're saying that you have?" Biana cut in, obviously worried about this.

"I, yes?? Most people my age in the human world have?"

Elwin seemed... concerned. "And how many survive, Sophie?" He said, but his tone made it sound like he was trying to show Sophie that most die, but... "Depends on the surgery, but on average about 95%."

Elwin paused, and asked, "Okay, what about relating to the heart or chest?"

"Have you guys never heard of top surgery? It's not a rare thing, I thought you guys had it?"

"What."

"Or plastic surgery, you know, to alter your appearance, some humans get addicted to it and do it many times."

Everybody was astounded at this point, but Elwin cleared his throat and said "Well... maybe we've always been unlucky?"

"Probably, you guys have better medicine, yet humans still do it so much. And live."

"I'll get started on the stitches after adjusting the ribs, they got a little messed up, I'm honestly not sure how."

Elwin walked off, and then Biana said, "Why did you get surgery?"

"To remove my appendix."

"To remove... part of your body."

"Yea"

"Alright sure, I will leave that be."

Keefe wasn't awake for three days, and they were terrible, just her taking medicine, and sleeping, it was boring.

But then, Keefe woke up, his ice blue eyes opening slightly, seeing her, and he whispered, "Sophie," his voice was just a rasp, making him continue, "man my voice sounds rough."

"Keefe?"

"Yeah, what happened?"

"You had to get surgery"

"I lived?!"

"95% live, elves have been unlucky, I had to explain it to Elwin."

"Oh, wait what."

"?"

"Why did I need surgery?"

"Sliced across the chest." Keefe's eyes widened at that, and his response was "So... I Fostered it?"

"Ugh, well I'm glad you're okay."

"Oh, was the great Sophie Foster worried about me?"

"Shut up."

"Bugging you is more fun."

"I hate you."

"Love you too, Foster." Sophie turned to face him and rolled her eyes at him, saying "You're an idiot."

"You know you love me too~"

Sophie muttered, "Yeah, I'm in love with an idiot."

"I HEARD THAT!"
