Green's Point, Louisiana was a small town of just over 2500 souls. Its nearest big city was Lake Charles. It is an 'Everybody knows everybody' kind of town. On Friday night most of the citizens of Green's Point could be found at one sporting event or another. This Friday night was no different.

The Margoville Lady Panthers were coming into town to play the Lady Cougars in girl's volleyball. Green's Point was the smaller school and ranked the underdogs. This was only the beginning of the season but Margoville was projected to go at least as far as the State championship.

Patricia Cole was in the gymnasium bleachers as she was every Friday night, to watch her youngest daughter Breeanna play for the Lady Cougars.
The girls were on the floor warming up.

Bree was the team's Libero (free player), meaning she couldn't serve or play the net. Looking at the Margoville girls Patricia was happy about that. They were big compared to Bree, but it seemed everyone was bigger than her.

She was only an inch over five feet tall, short for a girl her age and weighed in at about eighty three pounds. Even her own teammates seemed to tower over her. But Bree played any sport like she was ten feet tall. She was any team's little go getter.

First, when she was a little girl it had been soccer. She used to terrify Patricia with her breakneck style of play. Once, when she was seven, she had accidentally been kicked in the face, receiving a black eye for her trouble. She hadn't cried or made a peep, just continued to play.

Her daddy Charlie got a kick out of it. Their older girls, Samantha and Ashley didn't play a lot of sports when they were little. Charlie, who played football and ran track in highschool, tried to make it to all of Bree's games, but tonight he was on the night shift at the mill where he worked.

Patricia winced a little as Bree and one of her teammates nearly collided. She worried Bree was going to put too much emphasis on sports instead of her studies. She was a very bright little girl, the school was even thinking about bumping her up a grade in science and math. She had also expressed an interest in becoming a doctor.

Patricia watched her youngest child with equal measure pride and trepidation. All of the Cole girls were carbon copies of their mother. All had blonde hair and green eyes. Bree had long thick blonde hair that fell to her waist. She had it tied back in a tight braid for the game.

She was one of the prettiest girls in Green's Point and that wasn't just her mother's opinion. At fourteen she was attracting the attention of the boys, which in turn was attracting the attention of Charlie and Patricia Cole. Bree wasn't allowed to date until she was sixteen.

The gymnasium doors opened and Patricia automatically looked in that direction to see if her two oldest daughters had finally arrived, it wasn't them. She turned back to the court and noticed Bree looking that way also.

Looking to see if her sisters had showed up yet and not paying attention to where she was could get her hurt. Patricia tried to get Bree's attention to tell her to get her head in the game, but the coach clapped her hands next to Bree's face, getting her to rejoin warm ups.

Sam and Ashley had promised to come home for the weekend, especially to see Bree play. They were running a little late, but Bree wouldn't be happy until she saw her sisters in the flesh.

She loved and adored her big sisters. There was a big age difference between them, Samantha was twelve years older and Ashley was eight years older. The two older girls had already left home and were living their own lives. Sam was a professional chef in New Orleans and Ashley had just finished college and was living with friends in Holmes, Louisiana, a medium sized town about an hour and half to two hours from Sam.
