the beginning

The birds chirp as they soar over Chromapolis Square. The city is in celebration. The reason? A massive concert is set to take place later that evening. Or rather, a singing battle, according to some reporters. It will pit the Squid Sisters, the Tenta-Cool, and the Tridenfers against each other! The sun shines high in the sky, so strong that some have brought water bottles to hydrate after the day's matches. The numerous turf wars, whose repertoire circulates the city daily to see the new prestigious teams, have not yet begun. A normal day. The inkling with red tenta hair descends the marble steps towards the subway. His footsteps echo against the ground. The station has been restored recently, and the young inkling had quickly become accustomed to it. With a big smile, he stares at the sliding subway doors. The first to emerge is an inkling yelling at another girl, who happens to be an octoling.

- "THAT WAS MY SUNNY SNACK!!!!!!!!

- Sorry, Mina. Can we now say that your sunny snack has lost its shine?"

Sunny snack. That's what Mina calls all her snacks, much to the annoyance of her comrades whenever she makes a scene. The inkling on the platform takes a few minutes to understand the second inkling's pun. When he finally gets it, he laughs at the thought of a snack on the ground.

- "Hey! Mina! Zia!

- VIO!!!" the two shout simultaneously before running towards him to complain about each other.

Their cacophony elicits grimaces from more than one person in the station. Everyone grumbles or declares, "Shh! Quiet! It's echoing here!" Seeing this, the two immediately fall silent, leaving Vio with a terrible headache. Once he regains his composure, he realizes someone has placed their hands over his eyes.

- "Mina, not funny!"

Used to such jokes from the younger one, Vio speaks wearily. This elicits indignation from her:

- "BUT IT'S NOT ME! IT'S XYZ!"

The latter named softly laughs, as if to calm things down. Then he slowly releases his grip on his younger sibling's head to turn to Mina.

- "Calm down. At this rate, the station will collapse under your screams before the concert even begins!

- Shall we check out the setups? Or should we have a turf war! Omar supposedly has new dishes again! Shall we try them? Or should we go shopping?! No, better yet! Let's go door to door to find out where everyone lives or....."

The younger one's monologue, with her tenta hair clearly uncombed, waving in all directions as she announces her ideas, continues for a long while. Her eyes sparkle with joy and wonder as always when she comes to town. Draining the energy of her elders with her own, she turns to them.

This inkling has the knack of being adorable and annoying at the same time. This thought is shared by all members of the team.

Vio gazes at his friends, as usual his gaze shifting from the one he considers a little sister - Mina - to the octoling with red hair. His gaze lingers a moment too long on her, prompting Mina to point it out to him.

- "Vio! That's not fish, Zia!"

The young inkling immediately averts his gaze, blushing. Fortunately, XYZ saves the day, making him sigh:

- "Hey! Girls!" the last arriving octoling speaks up, "There's something more important than the concert!"

The two obviously don't listen, one yelling at the other and the other yelling back. These two can be on the same wavelength and extremely close as they can be the worst enemies, which always scares the boys, fearing they'll go for each other's throats. The team is a sort of second family for most of them. Each member protects the others as best they can. Well, mostly protecting Mina. In fact, Vio suddenly notices that the youngest one is looking up while stepping back. Vio grabs her T-shirt just in time before Mina falls onto the tracks. Sighs erupt before the eldest octolings call out to them to leave the station. The dazed one acquiesces, aware of what she just escaped, and runs off.

- "Well, now that we're outside!

- Where's my wallet?

- I've lost my headset!" Mina panics, not feeling her headset around her neck.

Upon closer inspection, Vio realizes his earring has also disappeared. Automatically, the three turn their gaze to XYZ. The octoling sighs before handing over the three items.

- "Sorry, couldn't resist!" he admits.

It's no secret to the team that the octoling has kleptomaniac tendencies and undergoes regular psychological treatment to calm them. Vio quickly puts his earring back on. The founder of their team is Zia, and despite everyone's problems, they've acquired a good level through training. Enough to finish well ranked, and today, they don't have a match, so what's more important than the concert? XYZ has officially piqued his curiosity.

- "Guess who's celebrating their birthday today?"

Oh no. Vio has probably forgotten one of his comrades' birthdays. He shamefully fixes his gaze on the ground. Mina immediately snaps him out of his stupor with a cry of joy.

- "IT'S VIO'S!!!"

Oh? With the concert, the inkling himself forgot it's his birthday today. Smiling at his friends, he rubs the back of his head, thinking his friends would have forgotten too as the concert approaches, and seeing Zia's expression....... The octoling can be quite absent-minded at times, so his forgetfulness doesn't surprise him. In fact, it reassures him a bit to avoid the knot that would have formed in his stomach when she would have brought out her famous "a special gift for a nice friend". Every time Zia declares they're just friends, Vio's stomach and throat tighten without him understanding why.

Mina hands him a package with a big smile. Opening it, he finds a dozen pastry boxes, more than half of which have been devoured. An image of the young inkling devouring them, forgetting they're his gift, comes to mind. He smiles, inwardly amused by the vision.

- "Uh.... thank you?"

Next comes XYZ's turn. The octoling seems rather embarrassed as he hands over the package containing just a necklace with a picture of their team inside. A basic gift but appreciated by Vio, who smiles as he thanks the one he sees as a brotherly figure.

- "Uh..... how about we test out Salmon Run?"

Vio freezes. He doesn't really trust Grizzco. Sure, it's said to be a good employer, but exterminating salmon? The inkling hesitates, but a sentence from XYZ is enough to convince him.

- "You don't refuse a gift."

And so the four find themselves in salmon Run attire with weapons on a boat that drops them onto an iron platform. Although the place is unstable, the explanation of the job reassures Vio a bit. It's like a turf war; if he's splatted, his teammates will revive him, and the boat remains

While the place is somewhat unstable, the job explanation reassures Vio a bit. It's like a turf war; if he gets splatted, his teammates will revive him, and the boat remains nearby. With a smile, his friends encourage him before the first wave begins. Creatures with more or less large red crests attack them with frying pans. Vio finds this ridiculous until he gets splatted. Once revived, the assault begins. Mina quickly repaints while Zia protects her from afar. Xyz, accustomed to Salmon Run, efficiently splats the salmon with some rolls. As for Vio, he kills some salmon when the Salmon Boss appears. Seeing it, Vio's eyes widen. So, that's a Salmonoboss? The creature is... indescribable, to be honest. Mina attacks it first while Zia goes to put the salmon eggs in the basket. The waves continue. The salmon seem like an army compared to the four Inklings. Finally, the waves end, but... where on earth is the return boat?!
