The last chance

Chapter 8 :

I wake up quietly in Caleb's arms. I get up and get dressed. Caleb is still sleeping peacefully. He's so cute when he sleeps. A black pickup truck pulls up beside the bedroom. Curious, I look out the window. I immediately recognize the man behind the wheel. It's my father. I quickly close the blinds. Shit!

- Caleb, Caleb, Caleb, wake up!

He quietly opens his eyes.

- Hi, sweetie!

- Shhh!

- Why are you telling me to shush?

- Because my dad's here!

- He is!

- He is here!

He gets up and looks through the blinds I've closed.

- Can you see him?

- It's the guy in the yellow T-shirt and cap.

- Yes, he is.

- Crap.

- We can't stay here.

- We get dressed.

We quickly put our clothes back on. I take the bag and we leave the room.

- We've got to get Raviere.

- Let's go.

We walk discreetly to Cassie's car. So far, my dad hasn't noticed us. Caleb knocks on Cassie's car window. She doesn't answer, so he knocks a second time.

- What?!

- Shh, damn it, Cassie.

- What the hell are you doing here, Caleb?

- Tell Raviere to come down.

- What for?!

I see my dad coming out of reception.

- Caleb, get in the car. Hurry.

Without further ado, we both get into Cassie's car.

- Hey, what the hell are you two doing?

- Hush, whore.

My father passes a few meters from the car. He doesn't see us. I approach my brother and shake him awake.

- Raviere, wake up.

He grunts.

- Wake up, come on!

- Wake up!

- Shhh!

- Why are you shushing me and what the hell are you doing here anyway? Aren't you with Caleb?

- I'm here too, the kid.

- You know what the kid says.

I'll slap him.

- Why are you slapping me?

- Is Dad here?

- What? Is what here? How did he find us?

- Right now, he doesn't know we're here. Then we'll run like hell.

- Shit, my gun.

Caleb opens the door.

- Caleb, what the hell are you doing?

- Getting my gun. We might need it.

- Hurry!

He gets out of the car quietly. Then, all of a sudden, we hear gunshots. He quickly gets back into the car.

- Drive Cassie, drive!
