A system.
A concept used in novels, comics/manga, and video games though the idea is mostly seen in a game. After all, it's a convenient way to show the player's growth and progress, using levels and skills as an indicator of the strength of the player.
While the idea of a system is mainly used in video games, it doesn't mean that comics and novels don't use the same concept. The gamer, and solo leveling is a great example. These two stories show the immense potential of a system. Showing their protagonist grows immensely in a short amount of time.
And I, Frank, is not unfamiliar with the concept. Having the aforementioned stories to be my guilty pleasures, when I'm not doing my studies, or hunting with my old man. It is a great way to escape reality for just a moment, and immerse yourself in a completely different world.
It's fucking great way to cope with the shittyness of the real world. Where everything seems to crumble every passing day.
And, the system is a power fantasy. The idea of growing in linear fashion where success is guaranteed is the wish of many people throughout the world.
And that fantasy is right at my face, gazing at me with its all knowing blue UI.
[You have been humiliated! Get revenge on the jock!
Rewards: 6 reality shards!
Failure: You'll be kicked in the ass again]And it starts with, what I can assume as a quest.
I sat at the bench and focused on the system. Analyzing it, its appearance is similar to that of Solo leveling system. And the UI reminds me of the Gamer a bit.
Before picking a choice, I tried asking the system. In most stories, the system usually has a built in AI that "aids" the character grow.
"Umm, what is your function?" Basic question at the start. I don't want to ask something complicated just for it to respond, I already look crazy to outside eyes.
A second passed by, and doubt started to grow, but before the sprout could get out the soil, a robotic voice suddenly rings.
[My function is to aid the host in growing stronger, and cultivating skills.]
The machine coldly replied, not an ounce of emotion in its words. I nodded.
"So, what's your name?" I asked the second question.
[My name is " DIMENSION GACHA" a multiversal lottery that can acquire items, individuals, and powers from other dimensions.]
Huh? Multiversal? As in it can access the multiverse?! Holy shit, that's fucking rad, not only does it prove to me that infinite worlds exists, my system has access to those said infinite worlds! Now that's amazing, though I'm quite downed that it's a gacha, never really had the best of luck when it comes to that type of bullshit.
"But wait. Why is there a quest?" I asked, usually the gacha is separated from the real system, serving as a form of micro-transaction in a lot of games.
[The quest function serves as the main way, the Host could access tokens, or to be more specific, "Reality Shards". And it serves as the main currency I operate upon.]
Oh thank god! I don't have to use real money! This is great! I could earn a shit ton, just by completing the task, it's quite simple and I like simple things.
[By the use of these shards you can access the chaotic multiverse. Yes, chaotic due to the unpredictable and incomprehensible nature of the multiverse, the system is purely random. I cannot give specific items, nor provide to increase luck. It's purely random.]
