Niall had just graduated from UCD  and was looking for a job. Unfortunately, there were no jobs in Mullingar but he was desperate. The only job he could find was in Galway, teaching Irish in the Gaeltacht.
He was forced to move away from his family and four best friends Harry, Liam, Louis and Zayn. He was a bit apprehensive at first but knew he had no other choice.

There was no way he could afford a house in Galway yet so he had to share a house with another person. That person happened to be a young man called Calum Hood.

~Nialls POV~

When I first saw the house I was impressed. It looked quite big and was in a nice neighbourhood. I walked through the front door and was a bit taken aback. It's safe to say the house wasn't as nice in the inside as the outside. There was a lot of dust and boxes were thrown everywhere. Not to mention the fact the furniture was about one hundred years old. It's safe to say the place was a bit eerie. As I was walking around something caught my eye. A picture covered in dust was sitting on the mantel piece. It was of three men who looked to be wearing some type of doctors coat standing outside what looked to be a hospital. The previous owner must have forgotten it or something.

"Hey!" Someone said behind me making me jump. I turned around and saw a boy who I'm guessing is my new roommate.
"Shit! You scared the crap out of me!" I said holding my hand over my heart. It felt like it was beating ninety miles an hour.
"Sorry man, didn't mean to scare you. I'm Calum. I'm guessing you're my new roommate?" He said holding out his hand for me to shake.
"Yep. That'd be me. I'm Niall." I said shaking his hand.
"What's with the creepy picture?" Calum asked taking the picture from my hands.
"I just found it on the mantel piece. I'm guessing the last owner forgot it or something." I said.
"Well the last owner would hardly bring it with him! Plus there's a date on the back that says March 1907 so I'm pretty sure none of these lived here." Calum says raising an eyebrow at me.
"Huh?" I said confused. "Why couldn't the last owner bring it with him?"
"He commit suicide like all the other previous owners of this house." Calum said looking at me like I was an idiot.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked is disbelief. I'm sure the landlord would have told me about this if it was true.
"Didn't the landlord tell you? Why do you think the rent was this cheap? Anyway I'm going to start cleaning so feel free to help!" Calum said happily and handed me back the photo.
"No, he didn't." I said quietly as Calum walked away. I quickly threw the photo in a random drawer and started to clean.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the house was completely clean I decided to walk around the neighbourhood. It was very peaceful and quiet. There weren't too many people in the neighbourhood and the Gaeltacht I was teaching in was only a ten minute drive from here. I had found a small shop around the corner and a park also. I haven't met the neighbours yet but I'm sure they're lovely. As I was walking back to my new home I saw a huge abandoned building. As I walked closet I recognised it as the one from the photo I had found in our house. I saw a sign and walked up to it.
"Galway mental hospital. Opened 1892." I read out quietly to myself. I looked back up at the building and honestly it creeped me out a little. The windows were either barred up or broken. The white paint was peeling off the walls and it just had an eerie silence  here. I could have sworn I saw someone looking at me through the top window. I saw someone looking down at me. They waved so I waved back and smiled. They then quickly disappeared. Strange, I thought. It looks completely abandoned. Maybe they're doing maintenance of something I thought. I continued to walk home and put today's events at the back of my mind. It was my first day tomorrow. I had more to worry about than ridiculous imaginations I made up.
"Wait, wait, wait," Calum said looking shocked "you saw someone in that creepy ass mental hospital?"
"Yes Calum. That is what I just told you." I said getting a bit irritated. This is the third time he's asked this since I told him a minute ago.
"Dude, that building is completely abandoned. It's not safe enough for people to go in there because of the fire that happened there. No one has been in there for at least one hundred years." Calum said. He was honestly freaking me out. There was someone in there. I waved at them for goodness sakes!
"Well I saw someone and waved at them. They were in the top floor I swear!" I said. I know what I saw.
"Niall stay away from there. Don't even walk by it okay!" Calum said shaking my shoulders and looking me dead in the eye.
"Yeah whatever." I said dismissively trying to shake him off of me. He was scaring me.
"No Niall! Swear to me you won't go in there! Just trust me please!" He said desperately.
He looked like he was on the verge of tears. "Yes okay Calum. I swear I won't go near it anymore."
"Promise?" He asked hugging me.
"Promise" I confirmed hugging him back. I couldn't help feel a bit worried though. Why was he so desperate to keep me away from there?
