The streets of the city were so crowded that the royal guard had to step in to ensure that no one got crushed or killed in the crowd. Every person was cheering, drinking, and celebrating. The sun still had to ascend the sky fully, and early morning breezes were cooling what was going to be an incredibly hot day.
In the palace, flowers decorated all the halls, candles to be lit at night, cluttered floors and tables, and banners of Aman and Bahut were hung. The Aman-Inkuni banner bore the sigil of a Sequoiadendron tree on a dark green canvas. The Bahut banner, with gold and light blue canvas, bore the sigil of a rearing stallion, symbolizing the horse people the nation is known for, and two wheat branches tangling around the proud horse.
The courtyard, where the union would take place, was outfitted with beautiful blue and white tents. Lanterns swung from left to right, creating a giant dome over the shades. This same design led to the castle's main entrance, then down the massive marble stairs towards Isigodi City.
Tables, chairs, and canopies were situated within another courtyard, facing towards the sea and away from the city. This is where the feast afterwards would take place. On a platform overlooking the courtyard stood a single table and a big, two-seater chair assigned to the newlywed couple. Two banners on opposite sides of the table beneath their platform captured the union of the two kingdoms. It was green, gold, and blue, with a horse's head turning around the tree, the wheat encircling both symbols. A big space was left for dancing and celebration, with the same lanterns decorating the sky.
The smell of freshly baked goods, cooked meat, and other delicacies engulfed the palace air. The guests were waltzing up and down the palace halls, chatting with excitement, and the palace servants were scurrying about with the same excitement.
All the noises, smells, and bodies made Kaien tense and annoyed. Leon and Quincey had a field day "dressing" him. Of course, all they managed was to give an opinion on his shoes, which were big black leather boots or big brown leather boots. Atsuka knew Kaien's taste best, so the clothes for his wedding consisted of black cotton pants and a white poet's shirt with a black coat. Kaien knew he would only wear the coat for the formalities and then throw it at Quincey's head because it was too hot to wear. The Iagi were all dressed in a similar fashion, but each style represented their heritage.
To Quincey's great disgust, Kaien wore his wild black hair in its usual half-up-half-down style.
"Do you have any idea what gorgeous creature will be wed to you, looking like an angel from the heavens above with perfect hair, a perfect dress, perfect feet, nose, shoes, and jewels, and here you are looking like you crawled out of a rat's ass with only nice shoes?"
Kaien took a sip of wine and just stared at the silver-headed moron before him. Mikael rolled on the sofa with guttural laughter while Atsuka glared at Quincey.
Kaien turned to Naruse. "So, this is the man you decide to spend the rest of your life with?"
Naruse nodded unamused. "Unfortunately, yes."
