The continent of Arashyasu had always been plagued with slavery and its trade until a young boy and his father rose up in rebellion, liberating many of Arashyasu's kingdoms. The boy, Kaien Kyota, became an emperor of several liberated kingdoms overn...

The next morning, Ren awoke in the emperor's chamber, the wind breezing through the open balconies. Surprisingly, she slept well, and the bed beside her was untouched. Kaien had not slept beside her that night, and he left the chambers in the early morning for work. Renkailene lifted herself from the silk sheets and looked around.
The past few days caught up with her after her marriage the night before, and she was so exhausted that she slept through to midday. The new empress tiptoed to the door, unsure of how to act and unfamiliar with Kaien's room. The moment she opened it, she was greeted by Quincy and Naruse guarding the door.
"Well, good afternoon, Your Grace." Quincey smirked, cocking an eyebrow.
"Did you have a rough night?" he insinuated.
Renkailene turned crimson from toe to head with both anger and embarrassment.
"Oh! Kindly shut up, Quincey! No, nothing-"
Naruse cut her off by pressing his hand firmly over her mouth. She looked up at him with confusion reflecting within her eyes.
"Eyes and ears, Renkailene. Your "ceremony" had to be completed for your marriage to be official in the eyes of the court." He whispered.
Her marriage was not consummated. Naruse knew Kaien would not spend the night with her, in fact she had the suspicion that all the Iagi would have the same assumptions. She could see that Quincy also regretted his mockery, almost allowing her to proclaim the truth out loud. To remedy the situation, Naruse groaned loudly.
"Please, Your Highness! I have absolutely no interest in hearing these details!" He proclaimed just loud enough to be heard by onlookers but not loud enough to attract suspicion.
Not acting, Ren's blush deepened, and she hid herself behind the door.
Soon after, Quincy represented her with a modesty robe as maids scurried inside to change the bedsheets. According to Naruse, they also knew that the consummation did not take place, but would keep His Majesty's affairs secret.
Renkailene was surprised to hear that she would be sharing a room with Kaien for the next month. When Naruse broke the news, she almost vomited. Ren was also sure that Kaien was not over the moon with this arrangement, and it surprised her that he did not just refuse. However, it was an Inkuni tradition.
The word 'tradition' has become an enormous headache for the emperor.
He did not mind avoiding his new wife in the slightest. At least she paid him no mind. Kaien did not think Renkailene would try to seduce him after their union, but he had thought that a woman of her soft nature would crave attention from her new husband and king. She yearned for a cigar and some sleep, to his relief. However, his wedding night might have been an outlier to her behaviour, and spending a month with her in his room every night might pose challenges.
