"Yeolgiga shikji anheun menyu jigeumbuteo ssak da
Ibmaseda ddaeryeo baga
Du, du, du, du, du, du
Ige uri tang, tang, tang-tang
..."The repetitive lyrics of his favorite song echoed within the four walls of his room as the clock struck 11:30 in the morning. Feeling lightheaded from staying up until 2 am due to his new part-time job, Noeul sluggishly turned off the repeating alarm while half asleep.
For the past two weeks, Noeul had been working nonstop night shifts because of his part-time job. Being in a foreign country where battling sadness seemed futile, he had taken on two jobs to avoid feeling depressed and disconnected every day. It was a trade-off: being tired all day but having money was better than being sad and broke simultaneously. Besides, he needed the income the most; fleeing from home to a different country wasn't enjoyable when you were broke.
"Morning, Chopper," Noeul greeted the cat beside him.
"Meow..." The cat replied, licking his paws while squinting.
Sunlight had already traversed the bed frame, signaling that half of the day had slipped away while he slept.
He stretched his arms and rose from bed, moving slowly to the window. The expansive glass window in his room was his favorite feature in the apartment he rented. It stretched from floor to ceiling and was the primary reason he had chosen the place, even though it had cost him a significant portion of his savings. 'Oh well, gotta maintain my old lifestyle. (He's a sucker for nice interiors.)'
Moreover, it was considered a bargain because some real estate company had decided to buy the supposed park across the street and erect another condominium building. The reason building complexes in this part of the city were affordable was that the company had marred the overall aesthetic of the area. Only a narrow three-lane street separated the two buildings, making the place feel cramped. Nevertheless, he had no say in that matter. The crucial thing was that he had secured a deal at a reasonable price.
Noeul's favorite pastime upon waking up was observing the street below. Watching cars pass, people stroll, and students laugh at jokes made by their friends always made his day feel more vibrant.
Perched on the third floor, the massive glass window nearly dominated one wall of his room. Whoever resided on the floor opposite his apartment complex would undoubtedly have a clear view of his every movement. Nonetheless, only half of the windows had curtains. He loved the openness and didn't want to disrupt the apartment's overall ambiance. Plus, he even had a small balcony, just big enough for a tiny round table and two chairs.
(AN: imagine it to be like this. But the balcony doesn't have any glass on it. Just the railing. Ty)
Even with a limited view, he still enjoys everything about the place. This place is his reward to himself, after everything he had gone through. This, and everything in this place is just perfect for him.
