I kicked Alice's motionless body out of the way. Travis winced, but made no comment on my actions. By now he'd finally figured out I had far more power than him. He was just lucky I didn't kick his lifeless body instead.
He led me back down the stairs, where we passed Kevin cautiously going up. His eyes lit up in surprise when he saw us.
"Jaye? Did you find her?"
Terror filled his eyes, especially when realizing only Travis stood beside me with Maya nowhere near us. His legs shook and his eyes were still watery. Poor Kevin. He clearly wasn't cut out for this and feared for his and Maya's lives.
I knew I had everything under control, so I offered, "Why don't you stay here? I'm about to go get her. Meet you outside?"
He shakily nodded and shuffled back out the front door.
I followed Travis deeper into the house. We passed by lots of familiar rooms on our way to the kitchen, and it was a lot easier to navigate through them without the crowd of teenagers.
To my surprise, he stayed silent the whole time we walked. This could have been due to a number of reasons. From fear, shame, or he could've been planning something. It didn't really matter.
I knocked over a vase we passed by just for the hell of it, which caused Travis to jump from fright. He stared at me with wide eyes, but bit his lower lip to keep from saying anything about it. I snickered and walked past him, no longer needing him to lead.
After venturing deeper into the house, I heard muffled screams. I dashed forward. That had to be her.
After sharply rounding a corner, I finally found myself in the right room. Sprawled out on the floor with a rag covering her mouth, Maya strained herself to scream for help. She screamed even louder when she heard footsteps approaching, but couldn't tell I was the one in front of her since her eyes were covered too.
Crouching down, I carefully removed the cloth covering her eyes and mouth and Maya breathed frantically to try and catch her breath. She looked up at me and screamed, "Look out!"
Wind whooshed behind me. Judging by its trajectory, I realized if I dodged this attack, it would hit Maya instead. So to better block the attack, I stood up and got smacked in the side by a large, blunt object. I keeled over from the impact and gasped for air.
Glaring ice back at Travis, I swiftly got back on my feet. He charged forward once more, screaming at the top of his lungs. I kicked a foot out and he stumbled forward, face-planting in front of me.
"Did you really just try the same attack twice in a row? It didn't even work the first time!" I almost laughed at his act of stupidity.
Travis spat out blood and glared up at me. "Well I hit ya this time, didn't I? And I'm gonna keep trying to get my revenge. You don't know how much you tarnished my reputation that night. You've made a mockery of me and my sister!"
"Oh my, how could I? I am so very, very sorry," I mocked him sarcastically, rubbing my side to make sure the pain went away. "You really are sooo threatening."
"You're gonna regret making fun of me! I'll keep coming for you!"
"What? Do you want me to just kill you then?"
I didn't even bother looking at the pitiful kid. I helped Maya back on her feet and brushed some dust from her hair. I concernedly checked her face for injuries as she had done for me in the past. She still seemed shocked from the whole situation, and leaned against me for support.
Keeping her upright, I slowly turned back to Travis. Pathetically lying on the floor really suited him. Maybe I should make him stay like that permanently. What's another person put in the hospital anyway?
