Maggi paced back and forth as she waited for Norma and the others to arrive at the lair. She kept checking the cameras every five seconds to see if they showed up magically in the two seconds she'd been looking away. When she finally saw their shadows on the camera, she bolted to the door and pulled them through. It was just Samuel and Kadence.
"We got your text, is everything alright, Echo?" Kadence sounded almost genuinely worried. Maggi nodded and tried to force a smile.
"Yeah, I just wanted the final member of the team to meet you." Samuel and Kadence looked between each other briefly.
"Don't worry, she is nice. However, she has quite a strange power. She can control the shadows and move through them." She glanced at the camera and nearly jumped when she saw Norma there. She ran to the door and pulled her through. She could tell that going through the portal was weird for her. Norma planted her feet once she was inside and looked around.
"This is quite the nice place you've got here." Maggi smiled, a small blush forming on her cheeks.
"It's really nothing...Umm, these are Samuel and Kadence! They are the other members. I have come up with the best of the best." She turned to the ramp, which she had left uncovered. She gestured for them to follow. She led them down into the fighting ring she had constructed. She didn't want to test them too much, but she wanted to get a sense of their full power. "If you don't mind, since we haven't trained that much since we didn't have Norma, I would like to see a full demonstration of your power, or powers." She turned to Samuel. "I want you to go back 5 seconds then forwards again." He nodded. She stood there waiting. She felt a slight change in the air but it was gone before she could consider it.
"Done." She blinked hard.
"Huh.." She studied the ground while thinking. "Do you remember that you changed time when you go back?" He nodded.
"Unless I go back too far, like to the medieval times. I'll remember." He smirked. "No one else will though." She grinned and turned to Kadence.
"Your turn. I want you to harness the full force of your flames and release them onto the dummy." Her eyes widened. She turned her head to face the dummy, like she hadn't seen it before. She hesitated for a long time before sending a blast so hot, Maggi had to shield her eyes. She turned back to face Maggi with a look of worry.
"I'm sorry, I don't really know the full force of my fire. All I can do right now is that."
"Can you control the smoke too?" She hesitated before moving the smoke away from the smoke detectors, even though Maggi had disabled them. Maggi took this into consideration. Plans were already forming in her mind.
"What about me?" Maggi's head snapped up and she flipped to look at Norma. She thought for a minute. She glanced around the room.
"Make it completely dark in here, then travel across the room and back again." Suddenly, as if the sun burned out and died, the room went completely dark. In the same instant, the light came back and Norma was gone. She was back in a moment, though. Maggi smiled. Her plan was going to work out just perfectly. She could see the curiosity in their eyes.
"What's your power?" Kadence seemed to have no patience, nor filter. Maggi considered her bases. She could tell them and risk losing her team, or not and risk losing their trust.
"What will you say if you get caught and they ask who you work for? If anybody?" The three considered for a moment.
"I'm not sure. I'd try to protect your secret identity, since you're trying so hard to get Captain Night out of Jail, why not me too?" Samuel's statement caught Maggi off guard. Kadence nodded.
"I may not know you very well, but I do know you are trying to get her out. If you can, then I'll keep your secret." Norma didn't seem like she was going to respond.
"I'd try. But, if they start using torture, then I'm ratting you out." Maggi smiled. She opened her mouth to say the words, but she almost couldn't. She hadn't told anyone in years. Sabrina was the only one who knew.
"I-I can do things with memories. I can see them, tamper with them, or make you forget them altogether." Her answer clearly wasn't what they expected. Kadence moved her hand to her head. Samuel sighed. Pieces were clicking together in his head. Norma was frozen.
"Is that how you knew my power?" She asked. Maggi shook her head.
"No. I can hack, too. I suggest not putting such secretive things on the internet. I understand if you don't trust me entirely. I can't exactly read minds, but I can get pretty close." Her face darkened. "Do not tell anyone about this. If any of you betray me, I'll know. You three are one of four people I've told of my power. My family is not part of these few." Norma seemed surprised. Maggi stormed up the ramp and slumped onto a beanbag. She put her head in her hands and inhaled deeply. She couldn't believe that she had told them that. She didn't even know them that well. She wiped a tear from her face and blinked the rest away. She heard Norma approach. Her steps were lighter than most, but not more-so than Maggi's.
"Thank you for being honest. I hadn't realized it was that secretive." Maggi laughed. A bitter, unnatural sound.
"My best friend is the only other one who knows. I understood from a young age that if I told anyone, I'd be classified as 'dangerous'." She shook her head. "I never told anyone. Now you can't either. I can easily wipe the knowledge from your mind. Even shadow walking away won't save you, either." She wiped the tears from her eyes. Samuel and Kadence poked their heads out.
"I think we're done for the day." She took them out one at a time before running back to her house. She sank onto her bed, before falling asleep. Threatening people was exhausting.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed! I want Maggi to be an strict, but not unemotional. She has a heart of gold for the people she cares about! At least... that's what I'm going for...Welp! Hope you enjoyed!
