Her brunette hair was dancing through the wind. Her emerald green eyes shimmered. I wanted to kiss her, I couldn't. My best friend since my first year of camp ever is Lily Anderson. She is the most thoughtful and caring human being you will ever meet. Ever since I learned what love was I had been in love with her. I knew everything about her, her favorite song, favorite color, how she took her coffee. She was never interested in me, to be fair she had never said she wasn't but it was painfully obvious. All throughout our years at camp she had never even hinted at us being something. I wanted to act the same so I always had girlfriends and would kiss them in front of Lily.

She was zoned out. "Lily?" I said. She woke herself back up but she had a different look than usual.
"Sorry, just a little sleepy." she stuttered. I knew she had something on her mind but I knew not to pry. The strong smell of burning campfire wafted into my nose.
"Last one to the campfire has to to do the others chores for a week!" I shouted, running over to the campfire. We always had little competitions, I loved them. She jogged over and sat next to me. "You're too slow!" I said as I ruffled her soft hair with my fingers. This summer felt different, maybe something would finally happen.

Head counselor, Hannah Cohen started her big speech she did at the start of every year of camp. I didn't even need to listen. I knew she would say something about making memories and something about how welcoming Camp Grizzly is, blah blah blah. "Wow, so poetic Hannah , I'm really touched." I said sarcastically. It made Lily do her little giggle that I would purposely try to make happen. I stared at her perfect freckles and button nose. Snap out of it, she doesn't like you like that. I always had to remind myself that Lily wasn't just like any other girl I had liked or dated, she was special. She was sensitive but strong and cautious but brave. She was perfect.
