The night of the incident (flashback)

The night sky was dark, with only the streetlights from the corner store lighting up the area. Aaliyah walked behind Psalm, shouting at him as they moved onto the street. "Psalm, I'm so sick of this shit! You really gone take that girl's number right in front of me?" Aaliyah got close to him, standing too close as she pushed against him.

Psalm clicked his tongue, annoyed. "Aaliyah, please, don't do this shit right now. I know that girl, why you tripping?" he tried to explain.

But Aaliyah wasn't listening. "You're lying, Psalm. You don't know her like you're saying you do!" she yelled back, then started angrily punching him. At first, her punches didn't hurt much, just barely making an impact. But soon, they started to sting, and she didn't stop.

"Stop hitting me, damn Aaliyah" Psalm said, but when she kept going, he finally snapped. In a quick, automatic move, his fist accidentally hit her jaw. Aaliyah's hand went to her jaw, and a single tear rolled down her cheek.

"Get in the car," he said, angry, but feeling guilty right away. He opened the car door with a shaky hand, got into the driver's seat, and focused on calming his breath.

Once inside the car, he muttered under his breath, "Arguing for no reason." As he drove out of the parking lot, Psalm headed toward his home, his mind filled with what had just happened, and his heart weighed down with regret. Looking to his right, he saw Aaliyah crying, her hand gently holding her jaw as she stared out the window.

He sighed deeply, hating himself for what he'd done, for letting his anger control him and hurt Aaliyah. He had always respected women, enough to never put his hands on one. But in that moment of blind anger, he had lost control, and it made him feel awful.

"Give me your phone" Aaliyah demanded, breaking the silence in the car. Psalm huffed in response. He couldn't understand why she didn't trust him, why she always seemed to be looking for a fight. This wasn't their first argument, but it was the first time his anger had hurt her physically, and he never thought he'd cross that line.

"You're not gonna find anything here" he said as he handed her his phone. She took it from him, wiping her tears and tracing her fingers across the cold screen as she started scrolling.

His phone was pretty boring. The only things that stood out were a bunch of unopened messages from his fans and women trying to flirt with him. But other than that, his phone was full of useless apps and messages from family and her. She threw his phone down. "I know you deleted shit, Psalm"Aaliyah accused, wiping tears from her face.

Psalm stared at her, shocked. He wanted to be more honest than ever, but she wasn't giving him a chance. He knew he had messed up before, but this time was different. He was different. He could see the pain in her eyes. "I know you're cheating on me, Psalm" Aaliyah said, breathing heavily.
