Robyn sat at the table next to Mehkai, helping him with his math homework. She smiled patiently, enjoying his requests for help, especially since she had also struggled with math when she was younger. "Now, all you need to do is plot the points" she explained.

Having faced similar challenges in math, Robyn was determined to make it easier for Mehkai. Mehkai's eyes grew wide as Robyn plotted the points on the graph paper, her hand moving smoothly across the page. "See, it's like connecting the dots"she said.

Mehkai nodded, concentrating hard as he tried to copy Robyn's movements. Together, they worked through the problems, with Robyn guiding him every step of the way. When they finished the last problem, Mehkai looked up at Robyn, his face beaming. "Thanks, Mom! I get it now!" he said proud of himself.

Mehkai stood up and put his homework in his backpack. Robyn took a couple of long sips of the freshly made orange juice, then glanced at the time on her watch. She knew she had to get the kids to school soon, as she had to attend Psalm's trial later. The trial would decide how many years he would be sentenced to.

"Jacobi, turn off the TV, sweetie, we need to go"Robyn called to her son, who was watching Ninja Turtles on the couch.

"Aww, Mommy, it was just getting to the good part!" Jacobi whined, but he turned off the TV, grabbed his backpack, and followed Robyn and Mehkai out the door.

"Ninja Turtles will still be here, baby. You can watch it when you get home from school, okay?" Robyn said. With a sigh, Jacobi replied, "Okay, Mommy." Robyn grabbed her keys and purse, then led the kids to the car to head off to school.

When they arrived, Robyn dropped Mehkai off at his area. He had asked her to walk with him but not to his classroom. "Okay, boy, I'll let you go now" Robyn said with a chuckle, noticing Mehkai's embarrassment. She kissed him on the cheek and said, "I love you."

Mehkai smiled and replied, "I love you too, Mom"before walking into the school building, his backpack bouncing behind him. Next, Robyn took Jacobi to his classroom, as he wanted. Holding his hand, she walked him down the hallways. When they reached Jacobi's locker, he quickly put his things away and then ran back to his mom, his lips poked out. "I wish you could stay, Mommy" he said sweetly.

Robyn chuckled and replied, "I wish I could too, but Mommy has to work, and parents can't stay at school." Jacobi laughed, and Robyn kissed his hair, hugging him tightly. "I love you, baby. Have a great day"

Jacobi smiled and said, "I will! I love you too, Mommy. Have a good day at work." Robyn's heart melted, and after one last hug, they said their goodbyes before going their separate ways.

The judge started, "Psalm, we had agreed to consider your case as self-defense. However, after careful thought, I've made my decision."

She took off her glasses and read from the paper, "Psalm, you admitted to killing Aaliyah Parker. Therefore, I am sentencing you to eight years in prison."

"And I recommend you get counseling" the judge added. Psalm stood, looking at Robyn. She looked back at him. Eight years was a long time, but they both knew it was the sentence he had to serve. The police walked up, and the sound of handcuffs clicking echoed as they were put on him.

As Psalm walked past Robyn, she reached out, gently touching his face. Tears filled her eyes. She whispered, "I love you" her heart aching. She hadn't expected to fall for him, but saying those words, she hoped he felt the same. Psalm looked surprised, then smiled and said, "I love you too, Robyn. I'm sorry." The police then led him away, leaving Robyn alone in the courtroom.

The case was over. Robyn couldn't believe she had developed feelings for him, but the love was real. She put on her sunglasses, trying to hide from the waiting reporters. The reporters shouted questions as she walked toward the courthouse doors, but Robyn kept her head high, hiding her feelings behind her sunglasses. As she made her way through the crowd, she kept her head down to avoid the questions.

One reporter yelled, "Ms. Domango, can you talk about your relationship with Psalm?" Another said, "You two seemed really close in there." But Robyn ignored them, not responding.

Finally, she reached her car and sank into the passenger seat. She stared out the window, watching as the reporters kept following her. When she pulled away, she closed her eyes and let the tears she had been holding back finally fall.
