Madison's POV

"Not as if he is your child," I sneered, Xavier stepped on the brakes immediately but my seat belt saved me.

I didn't know where such words had come from or why I had said them but Violet and Xavier's expression wasn't the reaction I thought I would see.

"Did you hit your head or something?" Violet commented from the back.

"Am sorry, I didn't mean it," I apologized to Xavier, I could see guilt in his eyes but why was he feeling guilty?

"I'm sorry for scolding you about Ryan but why did you say that?" Xavier apologized, making me confused.

"I don't know, it just slipped out of my tongue," I pouted, Xavier nodded and continued driving.

"Is Ryan's medical records part of the record I wasn't allowed access to?" I turned to see Xavier's hand tightening around the steering wheel again and his teeth grinding.

"Yes," Xavier answered with a straight face.

"Why can't I see it?" I tried my possible best to be calm.

I don't know why Xavier doesn't want me to access mine and the kid's medical records, it feels like he is hiding something but there is nothing I can do other than be patient and wait for him to come clean.

"I will give you a list of what Ryan doesn't need so you will be careful next time," Xavier stopped the car, I looked around to see he stopped the car right in front of Adrian's Empire.

"Can't I at least know what happened to Layana?" I asked the one question I have always been asking.

"Madison, enough," Violet tried to shut me up.

"You really want to know? When you regain your memory, you will know and you will understand why I never showed you those records and how I felt as a doctor," Xavier's eyes turned red with tears, he stretched his hand to the door and opened it.

What does Xavier mean? What does my memory have to do with this? What does Layana's record have to do with how he felt as a doctor? Why was Violet quiet? So many questions in my head but I couldn't ask a single one.

"I will take Ryan to the hospital and he will spend a few days with me so have a nice day at work, I haven't told Adrian about you yet," Xavier added.

"Does Adrian know me?" I asked, trying to control the tears.

"He might not recognize you because of his accident, it's been five years so I will let him know you are going to be working here," Xavier said without looking at me.

"Don't, I will figure it out myself," I came down from the car and watched as he drove away.

I took a deep breath and walked confidently into the building, I was met with an elderly woman sitting at the receptionist desk.

"Hello, Good morning," I greeted the elderly lady politely.

"Yes, Good morning, how can I help you?" She replied without raising her head from the computer.

I explained the reason why I was standing before her and handed her my files, she stared at it for a brief second before standing up, she left the receptionist area and I followed behind her.

We both took the elevator to an upper floor, the elevator felt familiar, the whole building felt familiar maybe because I had seen it on TV or something. When we arrived at the office, the elderly lady knocked before we both entered the office.

There was a young man seated on the executive chair inside the office, he looked like he was in his late twenties. His eyes were fixed on his phone.

"Good morning Director Leon, she applied for a salesperson position and she got it but someone had already gotten the position, so what am I supposed to do?" The elderly lady asked the young man who appeared to be Leon.

"Isn't there any other vacant position?" Leon asked the elderly lady.

"No, the only position that's vacant is Mr Adrian secretary," the elderly lady said looking at Leon.

Leon nodded his head, his eyes still on his phone, "is she married?"

What does being married have to do with me getting a job, I rolled my eyes.

The elderly lady checked my files, "No sir, she isn't."

"She can't work as Adrian's secretary, so send her away," The elderly nodded her head and turned to Walk out.

"But I am in a relationship and I have a child," I hurriedly said, "if that helps though."

Leon dropped his phone for the first time since we entered his office and a small smile played at the corner of his lip.

"Interesting, so what do I do with that information?" Leon smirked.

"I don't know," I trailed off slowly and lowered my gaze not daring to meet eye contact.

"Okay, Adrian works with only men and married women to avoid any type of misconduct, do you get?" Leon said with a straight face.

"But I am practically a married woman," I defended. I needed the job, I didn't want to use Xavier's help to get myself a job.

Leon stood up from his chair and walked up to me, "Okay, let's see," I could hear the amusement in his voice.

Leon brought out his phone, he showed me the number he was about to call, it was saved as Big Bro Adrian and made a phone call. Before he made the call there was a smirk on his face but during the call the smirk began to fade to one of shock and surprise.

He hung up and stared at me with his mouth slightly opened, "what are you?"

"Hmm?" Confusion evident in my voice.

"She got the job, take her to Adrian's office and show her around and also teach her what to do and what not to do," Leon said dumbfounded, the elderly lady's facial expressions were priceless.

I just stood there wondering the conversation and why he allowed me work as his secretary or maybe Xavier already spoke to him but Leon didn't mention my name in the conversation and Xavier knows I was supposed to be working in sales.
