Short chapter
SITTING BETWEEN RIONA AND ADRIAN IS
uncomfortable to say the least. The only noise you can hear is forks scraping against plates. Granted it was awkward when Riona's husband came over for the first time but it's different when it's your..boyfriend? What the hell am I supposed to call him?"So Adrian, how'd you and Reinette get so close?" I choke on my water and my dad's head snaps towards me. Shit.
"We went out for coffee to discuss her book and got off topic." My dad looks extremely suspicious of me and Adrian.
"So what are your plans for my daughter? Are you guys dating?"
"I want to pursue a serious relationship with her, and yes, we are." Riona makes a noise and Ares lightly smacks her arm. A silent way of saying shut up. Mom just smiles and continues eating.
"Do you plan on marrying our daughter?" My mom says after a while.
"Yes, but that time will come in due time." He's so prepared for these questions, almost as if he's thought about marriage, and an actual relationship with me.
"What about kids? How many do you want?"
"That's up to my future wife, she's doing most of the work, I'll just be her support mechanism." Luckily for her.
"Well then, I appreciate you making the effort to come to dinner with us, and the fact that you make her so so so happy, it's all just amazing." My dad doesn't say much.
He's always been overprotective and pessimistic. My mom is the optimist and the one who lets us do the most things without complaining.
My dad never let us have sleepovers. My mom let us have them once we were eighteen She claimed that it was because legally we were able to kill somebody with a weapon and call it self defense. Which is valid
My dad said his reasoning was because child molestation happens at sleepovers a lot. Also valid.
I like the way my parents parented us, it was slightly strict but not as much as other people I understand they're parenting style more now that I'm older.
___________"Reinette, sweetie where are you staying?" I'm packing my bags to go to a hotel but I can't tell her that, she'll feel bad.
"I'm going back home, me and Zane talked and he got his stuff out of the house." Two lies. I haven't talked to Zane at all. She nods.
"Okay, be safe, love you baby." She leaves my room, shutting the door behind her lightly.
"Love you too."
We're the type of family who always says I love you no matter what, because you never know what will happen. A short I love you, is always needed.
My phone light starts blinking and I pick it up to see Adrian's name flashing across the screen. I answer it.
