Fight Over A Political Stance

The election was coming and people are voicing out their opinions. You know what happens during this time of the decade. People will fight over it and they will even forget who they are talking to. Regardless if the person they are talking to is their friend, families, churchmate and co-workers. They are ready to destroy relation for the sake of securing their ground.

Let me tell you something, I am guilty of that. It is even stupid to think, honestly, because I wasn't even of legal age to literally meddle with adult concerns like this. And that's where morality was thrown out of the window. Literally forgetting what we should always be holding on. During that time, I was so loud in the internet who I'm siding on. Sharing and posting anything political related. We analyze and  criticize every corner of this politicians. Do they deserve such position? Does the policy she tries to implement won't affect other minorities? And that's when dialectical thinking comes in with other people. But let's not lie to ourselves, small amount of people probably use this when it comes to politics.

The worse part of this moment in my life, is that I indeed lose some friends that time. And to note, they're even my churchmate. She confronted me about it and even used our religion against me. Like why am I meddling with this things? Logically speaking, I should be quiet. She then even voiced out her opinions against to the politician I was in support of. Political philosophy is about the people being governed and the government in question. What happened is that we went back and forth against each with other's stance, and try to reason things out with her why the politician I'm supporting is deserving and what the society needs. She got tired of it and unfriended me on Facebook.

Now looking back, I was wrong for how I acted and reacted. But do I feel regret for what I was supporting at that time? No. I'm only ashamed for the way I acted. Other elements of philosophy is to debate and discussion, and that's what pretty much what happened to us. But another thing is ethical consideration—moral reasoning. I tried reaching out to her and said my apologies. I was so happy because she replied and said she apologize for what she did too, and even said the way she reacted wasn't ok as well. We finally reconciled after that. At the end of the day, we should always analyze what we did, even if it gives us that cringe feeling we all hate.
