IT WAS A NEW DAY. Nadia had stepped out of her car, locking the doors before making her way to the entrance of McKinley High School on that Monday morning. Her heels clicked on the pavement with a fierceness that she had carried whenever she walked through those halls. Her outfit styled impeccably, every detail meticulously chosen to project class, elegance, and confidence. The whispers, glances, and whistles from her classmates as she made her way to her locker.
As she turned the corner, she saw Sam Evans making his way towards her, and her heart sank as he got closer to her. Any given day, Nadia would roll her eyes at the sight of Sam and he would do the same thing because they hated each other so much that they didn't even make eye contact with each other, but this was different. They slept together, and Nadia couldn't stop thinking about it either because she knew deep down that she liked Sam, but wasn't going to act on it because of her damn pride.
Nadia snapped out of her trance, held her head high, and simply walked around him continuing towards her locker at the end of the hallway. However, Sam quickly marched behind her, calling the girl's name but she ignored him. He then grabbed her arm gently and she turned to face him, the darkness of her sunglasses blocking her from seeing him clearly.
"Can I help you?" Nadia questioned, keeping her purposeful demeanor in tact.
"We need to talk." Sam insisted.
Nadia sighed, glancing around to make sure no one was watching or listening to their conversation. "I have nothing to say to you, Sam."
"Please just hear me out." Sam's voice was soft but insisted. "What happened after Rachel's party—"
"I said I have nothing to say you." Nadia pulled her away from his grasp and made her way towards her locker, but he followed her.
"But we need to talk about what happened after the party. We can't just pretend that—"
"Yes we can." Nadia cut him off, her tone lot more firm than the first time. She began to spin the combination on her locker, focusing on the task. "That's exactly what we're going to do. Nothing happened after the party and we're going to keep it that way."
"Nadia, I heard what you said. About being in love with me." Sam informed her, reminding the girl of the very words she said that night.
Nadia gasped ever so quietly, but kept a straight face to not show her feelings towards the matter. "I was drunk, Sam. Everyone says stupid stuff when they're drunk."
Sam let out an exasperating sigh. "Did you mean what you said?"
"What does it matter anyways?" Nadia couldn't open her locker because he was staring at her so intently that it was making her forget her locker combination. "You're with Santana. She's my best friend and I can't do that to her. And neither can you."
"But what if—"
"No." Nadia turned to face him. "You don't get to "what if". You and Santana are together. What happened between us was a mistake that can never happen again. We can go back to not liking each other, but that is it. We agreed not to talk about it, so respect it."
