The Great Hall buzzed with vibrant conversations emanating from every corner, even the teachers joining in without interruption. Amidst this lively atmosphere, the Slytherin group waited patiently, pondering over Megan's words from the previous night.
I sensed the upcoming moment. Suddenly, an explosion reverberated from outside the Great Hall. The teachers swiftly rose from their table, running to investigate its origin in the hallway. Catching Luna's eye, I nodded knowingly.
The day prior, I had asked Luna to assist me with a task, to which she had readily agreed without hesitation. She approached McLaggen and his companion at their table, engaging them in conversation effortlessly. Without their knowledge, Luna discreetly added Veritaserum to McLaggen's pumpkin juice. As Luna returned to her seat, a satisfied smirk played across my lips.
I stand on the table, gazing at McLaggen with a smirk. "Tell me, Cormac, how was the party yesterday?" I inquire with a sweet smile, drawing the attention of everyone around us.
"It was alright, I suppose," Cormac responds hesitantly, his expression shifting to confusion.
"Care to share what you got up to at the party, if you don't mind me asking?" I ask.
"Well, I was attempting to connect with a few ladies here and there," he blurts out.
"Did you actually put Amortentia in my drink with the help of your friend there?" I ask, smirking as I point to the guy beside him.
"Yeah," he replies casually, but then his eyes widen and he covers his mouth in realization.
"And you've done this before to other girls?" I ask knowing the answer to it already.
"Yeah, it's no big deal," he blurts out.
"Ladies, you're now aware. You're welcome," I announce, taking Draco and Theo's hands as I step down from the table and sit gracefully.
The entire Great Hall fell silent as Cormac and his little friend, visibly furious at being caught, strode towards what I presumed was my table. Just as they were half way, the teachers returned, demanding to know the culprit's identity. Yet, the hall remained eerily quiet, shielding the culprit. Cormac returned to his seat, but not before casting a bothersome, vigilant eye in my direction. Nothing I wasn't used to by now.
"So that's what you've been up to after class," Pansy said, her tone reflecting a sudden realization.
"Yep, I said I'd handle it my way, and I did," I replied, directing my gaze specifically at Pansy, Draco, and Blaise.
"With a hint of Weasley," Theo added while finishing his last bite of food.
"Admit it, the distraction worked like a charm," I said confidently.
"When did all this happen?" Theo asked, just now catching on to Cormac's confession.
"While you and Mattheo were likely busy snogging some girls," I said, smirking.
I spotted Luna leaving the Great Hall, so I stood and walked over to intercept her before she exited. With a smile, I hugged her.
"Thank you so much for your help," I said, smiling softly and letting go of her.
"Of course, anything for my friends," she replied with a smile, skipping away.
I returned to the table with a contented smile, seating myself and quietly contemplating my surroundings, deep in my thoughts. Should I tell Draco what happened with Mattheo the other night? That scene kept replaying in my mind, but he didn't act differently afterward; he simply continued treating me the same way. Is he really that bad of a father that his own son would betray him? At some point while lost in thought, I bit my lip hard enough to make it bleed.
