All of sudden, my alarm clock started to ring loudly in my ears and it gave me a headache. How could it have been 2 hours already? I groaned, hit the snooze button and covered my face with a pillow. I tried to motivate myself to get up, which didn't work at first, 'cause I'm lazy, okay?
Then the realisation hit me. I would be meeting Connor Franta. Holy crap. Someone who I've watched and idolised for years would be face-to-face with me. What if he actually watched my videos? The thought of him knowing who I was got me out of bed faster than I thought anyone could.
I grabbed my phone, padded down the stairs and when into the kitchen to get something to eat. I didn't have much time so I just settled with a cereal bar and a glass of orange juice. Mid-bite, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, so I took it out and saw a text from the one and only, Tanya Burr!
I messaged her on FaceBook once and said that she liked my videos, which was a huge deal for me. It's funny to think that a big YouTuber like her was watching a little unknown YouTuber like me. Tanya and I soon became good friends, and we texted each other constantly.
[Tanya: Hey Troye! Can't wait 2 finally meet u soon! Have a safe flight! Xx - Tanya]
I smiled while reading her text and drank the last of my orange juice. I loved that she was thoughtful enough to text me to have a safe flight. She could've texted, I don't know, Alfie Deyes or Jack Harries, but she took her time to text some random guy named Troye who wasn't even relevant in the YouTube world.
[Me: Thanks, Tan! Meet u @ the hotel, see ya soon! <3 - Troye]
I made sure the text sent, then headed upstairs to get dressed. I planned to have a shower when I got to LA so I didn't have to rush before I left for the airport. I opened my closet door and realised, I didn't know what I was going to wear. Sh*t.
Skinny jeans? Bad idea, it was a 19-hour flight and that would've been uncomfortable as hell. Khakis? Why did I even consider that as an option? After about 10 minutes of thinking about my options, I decided to wear sweatpants, a random T-Shirt and an oversized hoodie. All together it was really freaking comfy, so I knew I'd picked well.
I laced up my blue trainers and gathered all of my luggage. To be on the safe side, I triple-checked for my ID, passport, boarding pass and US money. When I was secure with what I had, I quietly wheeled everything outside, as to not wake everyone asleep in the house. I had already per-booked a taxi to take me to the airport and the guy driving was parked right outside my house, tapping the window impatiently as soon as he saw me.
I put my suitcases in the back of the car and hopped in.
"Hi!" I smiled at the driver, getting a scowl in return. My smile quickly faded and I looked down at my feet.
"You're late." He hissed. I furrowed my eyebrows and checked the time on my phone. 12:27am. I was actually 3 minutes early but I didn't say anything incase he refused to drive me altogether.I got to the airport, got all my luggage checked through and sat in the waiting area to board the plane. I quickly got bored of waiting so I whipped out my phone and played Flappy Bird, trying to beat my highscore of 24.
I was doing pretty well, actually. 18, 19, 20, 21, almost there, 22, 23, SMASH!
"No! Son of a b*tch!" I yelled angrily. I looked up from the screen and everyone was staring at me, awkward. I sunk down in my seat and inspected the details on my plane ticket. No way was I gonna risk embarrassing myself again because of that stupid game.Row 4, blah blah, seat 23, whatever. Wait a minute, FIRST CLASS?! I'd never even met anyone who has sat in First Class, let alone been in it! I had no idea what to expect, and I had a feeling that I'd embarrass myself one way or another. I'm just that type of person who's fine when they're alone but as soon as there's people around, I somehow f*ck it up.
"1:30am Flight to Los Angeles, California, please make your way to Gate B." The speaker echoed around the whole airport. I grabbed my hand luggage and made my way over to Gate B. When I reached the gate, a flight attendant was standing next to the door that we had to go out of to board the plane.
"Okay, everyone who is in First Class, please make your way towards the plane." The flight attendant said sweetly, the expected fake smile plastered across her face. Being the awkward person I am, I sped-walked over to the gate, trying to avoid all contact or conversation someone might try to have with me.
I weaved in and out of the rows, trying to find my seat. It took me a good 10 minutes or so, but as soon as I saw seat 23 in row 4, I practically dived into the seat. I kept my hand luggage on the floor near me incase I needed anything during the flight, and got comfortable in my seat.
Only then did it seem real. I was going to LA. I was going to be meeting people who actually enjoyed my videos. I was going to make some YouTuber friends. And most importantly, I was going to be spending time with CONNOR FRANTA.
