I COVERED MY EARS and slammed the door to my room and crouched down while tears streamed down my face. I could hear the muffled screams and yells of my mother.

"Coral! Coral Gabe get back out here now! I'm coming in there!" She yelled. My eyes then shot open and I uncovered my ears and then stood up straight. Just then my mom barged into my room.

"No mom! You can't just leave me for some stupid job!" I yelled at her. She looked mad. Furious. But my tear stained cheeks must've calmed her down. Because her expression changed when she saw my face.

"Baby..." She said taking my hands into hers. "This is for our good. I promise. And when I get back I promise I will never leave again." She said as calm as possible. She lifted her hand and cupped my damp cheeks from the tears. And then she kissed my cheek.

I whimpered and she took me into her arms, hugging me.

"But for a year?" I asked my voice cracking.

"Yes. Baby, I'm gonna be back until you know it." She tried to comfort me.

"Yeah but-" I was cut off protesting by my mom.

"No, no "buts" you're going whether you like it or not." My mom said. Her voice angelic but the words she said demanding.

She let go of me and left my room with no other words spoken.

I again crouched down and covered my ears. And I cried. I cried so much it felt like I hadn't drank water all day. I cried until it felt like I couldn't breathe. Like my throat clogged and I couldn't speak or do anything.

But with all my strength I got up and laid on my bed. I couldn't believe it. My mom. My best friend, gone. For a year.

I closed my eyes and slowly, my breathing turned heavier and everything became darker and darker and eventually I fell asleep.

The next morning was not as bad but I still had to pack.

I got up early from bed to pack. My mom was leaving today. And I was leaving to the Cameron's residence today.

                                         ~

After I packed my mom said our goodbyes and Ward picked me up and drove to the Cameron's house.

I got out of the fancy all black Range Rover and got my luggage out the back.

"Make yourself at home." Mr. Cameron said with a smile, snapping me out of my thoughts.

We entered the house and he took me to the kitchen where we found Sarah and Wheezie sitting down on the chairs in front of the island table.

"Coral!" Sarah shrieked. Me and Sarah were not best friends, but we were friends and would hang out any time my mom and Ward would go out as friends.

"Coral!" Wheezie mimicked her big sister and they both ran over to me and gave me a big hug.

"Hi guys." I said.

"Sarah why don't you show Coral her room?" Mr.Cameron told Sarah and she nodded.

"Yeah of course!" Sarah smiled and took my hand and lead me up the twisted stair way.
