Aakriti's Pov

As usual I was in the kitchen with Ragini di.

My cooking skills keep improving with her guidance.

I stirred the dal while she prepared the curry.

"Aakriti, meri maa ki tabiyat kharab hai mujhe kuch din ke liye apne maike jana hoga" she tells me.

(Aakriti, my mother is not well I'll have to pay her a visit)

Oh God, will I have to survive in this house without her.
Means I will have to face the devil mother-daughter duo alone.
But I can't stop her.
It's about her mother, maybe it's urgent.

Ye dukh khatam kyu nahi hota

"Kya hua hai unhe" I asked her.

(What happened to her)

"Unhe heart ki problem hai, tabiyat kharab ho rehti hai aur pata nahi kyu kuch dino se unki halat aur bigad rhi hai" She says, the sadness and fear evident in her voice.

(She is a heart patient, she's never too well and from few days her condition has gone worse)

I inhale sharply, as a daughter I can understand her pain.
I would never be able to live if anything happens to my parents.

When I was younger I thought I would be able to live alone.
"Hum akele aaye hai aur akele jayenge" was my motto.

But I realised even a strong person is just a broken soul from inside, who craves love and care.

Growing up I saw all the faces which used to smile in front of me, they spit vemom behind my back.

They would sing song of my praise on face face, but behind my back they always wished for my downfall.

It was my parents who wished for my success and happy life.

Par ab toh unhone bhi paraya kar diya.

I looked at Ragini di, her face seemed smaller and her lips were not curved in a smile.

I walked towards her and hugged her
"Di, aap chinta mat karo. Sab thik hoga, bas aap muskura do warna mujhe bhi rona aa jayega"

(Di, don't worry much. Everything will be fine, just smile for me)

She nodded and hugged me back.

Ragini is the only person who accepted me wholeheartedly in this family.

She is the only one whom I trust with my secret.

She is the only one whom I can come to in any problem.

So, it's my responsibility to not let her feel alone, cause she always cared for me and made me feel comfortable.

Apart from Rishabh, she is the only one here I consider family.

Vijay bhaiya and I never had any proper conversation, it's safe to say that I don't really know him.

My mother in-law and sister in-law, well we shouldn't talk about them.

"Kab ja rhi hai aap" I asked her.

(When will you leave)

"Bas khana banake nikal rhi hu, do teen din aa jaungi"

(I'll leave when I'm done cooking, I'll return after two-three days)

" Aap itni jaldi jaa rhi han"I say getting a bit upset.

(You're leaving this soon)

" Jana zaruri hai"She informs (Aapna aur ghar ka dhayan rakhna, aur unn dono se dur hi rehna"

(It's important) (Take care of yourself and the house, stay away from those two)

"Mai call karungi"

(I will call you)

We both break the hug and get back to our work.

•°•

I was again in the kitchen preparing dinner, this time without Ragini di.

I was having trouble in cooking, for following reason -

1) I am not used to cooking for the whole family.

2) I only knew few dishes.

3) I don't want to be taunted for cooking bad.

4) It's taking me more time to cook , and probably the dinner will be served late .

5) I have only cooked under someone's guidance, never alone.

6) I wanna cry.

Keeping these thoughts aside, I was working.

At least I'm not making anyone starve, why can't they appreciate this instead of taunting.

"Aakriti" I heard Rishabh's voice.

Is he back from office, already?

"Ji" I answered and he entered the kitchen, which was a bit messy.

He stopped mid way, his eyes roaming around the kitchen with an unpleasant look.

Okay the kitchen was not a bit messy but very very messy.

"Ye kya haal bana rakha hai rasoi ghar ka" He exclaims.

(What have you done to the kitchen)

"I'm just a girl" I pout.

"Woh mujhe dikh rha hai" He comments and walks further, towards me.

(I can see that)

"Dinner still not ready?" He asks.

"No no, it's prepared I was just cooking for fun" I say sarcastically rolling my eyes.

Maltab tum mera haal chal puchne se pehle khana ke baare m puch rahe ho.

Yahi pati dharm hai.

"Accha, what are you cooking?" He asks now standing just beside me.

"Khana" I reply.

(Food)

Here my whole body is paining due to the working so much, and he is concerned about food.

"Kitni der aur" Yet again he questioned about food and not my wellbeing.

(How much time)

"You know what, tumhe itni bhook lagi hai toh khud banao aur khao merese nahi hota aur" I say slightly raising my voice in annoyance.

"Aare gussa kyu karti ho, if you can't cook this much food toh mujhe bolo na I'll help" He said calmly despite my angry glare.

(Why are you getting angry, if you can't cook this much food then tell me I'll help)

"Han han, jaise khana banana aata hai raja sahab ko" I comment.

(Yes yes, as if you know how to cook)

I don't know where this courage is coming from and since when I got this comfortable with him but I'm glad I did.

The date cum shopping did brought a change in our relationship

Pata hi nahi chala kab hum anjane se dost ban gaye.

He came closer to me, so close that I could feel his breath fanning my earlobe.

If he move further, his lips with come in contact with my skin.

"Mujhe kya kya aata hai ye tum abhi kaha janti ho Aakriti" He whisper.

I could feel my heart racing, My hands fisted at my side and my mind foggy.

What should I reply with to his double meaning sentence.
