Chapter four

Chapter 4
One month has gone by since Jess started working for Powell's company as Ryan's personal assistant and she was already getting used to his constant complaints in everything she did. On weekends when she goes over to his house to cook, he was mostly in his study working or on business calls, sometimes he wouldn't even notice she was around until when she came to serve him lunch. But this Saturday was different because when Jess came over to the house she found Ryan sitting in the sitting room watching a program.
"Good morning sir" Jess greeted me heading to the kitchen.
" Good morning Jess " Ryan replied, eyes still on the television.
He called me "Jess" and not Miss Conner today, he must be in a good mood today Jess thought as she went to work.
Jess was in the kitchen humming and moving her body to the music she had played on her phone, she has always love to listen to music whenever she is doing domestic work, she didn't notice when Ryan came and stood at the door watching her until she turned to get something from the kitchen cabinets that she saw him and was startled.
" Oh my God, you scared me how long have you been standing there" she asked
" Hmmm a few minutes ago" Ryan said smiling.
" You must be in a very good mood today"
" Why did you say so"
" Because you are smiling at me and you even called me by my first name earlier," Jess said
" Oh, if you say so, then I must be"
" Something good must have happened for you to be this happy"
" Well, I won a business deal at the state that I have been pursuing for some years now last night and am a bit excited about that"
" That's great, so what can I get for you, do you need anything?  Jess asked.
" No, as a matter of fact, I'm here to be of help to you"
" Oh no I got this, and I don't need help"
" Why, do I make you uncomfortable? is that why you don't want me here?" he asked moving closer to her.
" No I'm not uncomfortable around you, it's just that you are my boss, sir, and I am working right now"
" If that is so, then you don't have a problem with me just standing here"
" Sir is your house you can stand wherever you want"
" Jess please stop with the "sir" thing at least when we are home"
" You were the one who said "how dare you call your boss by his first name" Jess said imitating Ryan's voice
" That was then, now I believe some things have changed"
The only thing that keeps on changing is you Jess thought .
" Fine, if I call you by your first name you promise to go back to the sitting room and leave me to do my work, sir" she said
" Okay, is a deal then",
" All right then, Ryan, can you please go back to the sitting room?" Jess said smiling
"I like the sound of my name in your mouth" he said moving closer to her.
" Ryan you promised to leave" she reminded him
" Okay... okay, let me leave you to your space" he said leaving the kitchen.
Jess wondered what has gotten over him today he was more like the Ryan she used to know 10 years ago more cheerful, and playful, not the Ryan she had met a month ago who was bossy and unsatisfied with anything she does.
After about 30 minutes Jess served the food in the dining room and went to the sitting room to call Ryan.
" Sir, your food is ready, it is in the dining room"
" Are we back to sir" Ryan asked
" I'm sorry Ryan, your food is ready" she corrected and was about to leave when he held her back
" Join me" he said
" What?" She asked not hearing him correctly
" I asked you to join me, eat with me today"
" But I still have..."
" I insist" he interrupted her
" If you insist, then let me get a plate for myself" she said going to the kitchen to get a plate.
When she came back Ryan was already at the dining table waiting for her, as she sat down and started dishing out their food, they ate in silence for some minutes until Ryan interrupted the quiet peace.
" Tell me about your daughter" he said,  after some seconds Jess replied
" Hmmm my daughter, her name is Laura, she is a very beautiful and brilliant girl very cheerful and playful just like her father" she said looking at him.
" Oh that's nice how old is she" he asked
"Hmm, oh,.. oh" Jess shouted standing up from the table and checking her wrist watch, " I almost forgot I was supposed to meet up with someone today" she said rushing out of the dining table. Ryan who didn't think much about her behavior replied "where are you going, who are you meeting with, let me drive you to the place",
" Oh no that won't be necessary, I'm just going to meet an old friend of my late husband, his boss actually, Mr brock, he asked to meet up for a coffee today".
Ryan's mood immediately changed 'Mr Brook' the same guy she had been laughing and chatting with at the restaurant, Ryan had asked his driver to look into Mr brock and he knew he was the CEO of Doug's company. The guy was rich but Ryan was way more richer than him. He stood up angrily "yeah, right, enjoy your coffee date" he said leaving the food and went upstairs to his study.
As Jess heard the door of the study opened and closed she wondered what came over him and why he suddenly became angry, was it the way she had answered his question? or was it because he had refused him driving her to the place, she was just relieved that she got to dodge his questions about her daughter. She cleared the dining table, cleaned up the kitchen and set the remaining food in the fridge. Before she left she told Mr Quinn how she had arranged the food for the following days and left the house.
