Johnnies pov
About 30 minutes later, Jake comes back into the room Sam following behind hum. About 15 minutes earlier, Colby fell asleep in a chair. "Hey." I say. "Hey." Jake walks over to the side of my bed. "I'll get Colby home. Call us if you need to." Sam says, waking up Colby. Colby walks over and hugs me, then Jake. "Bye." Jake and I say bye back. Sam and Colby leave. "Can we talk?" "About what?" "The video." I nod slightly. Jake pulls a chair over and sits next to me. He grabs my hand, but just then, the doctor comes in. "Hello Johnnie, Jake." "Hi." I say, and Jake smiles at him. "I'm here to change your bandages." Jake, let's go of my hand. The doctor pulls a chair up to the other side of me. He takes one of my hands and wraps my bandages. "Wow, it's almost healed. You've been here for two days, less!" "Yeah, I heal fast." "Well that's good. Let me get some things ready, and you can be on your way." "Thank you." The doctor smiles and leaves. I look at Jake. "Is the bathroom cleaned?" Jake nods. "Thank you." The doctor comes back into the room with a bag of bandages and gauze. "Here you go, and you can be on your way." "Thank you." Jake and I leave. We get to the car. Jake is driving. He outs his hand on my thigh. "I'm so sorry." His voice cracks. I put my hand on his. "Johnnie?" I can hear the tears in his voice. I look out my window, trying not to cry. "Why did you not believe me, Jake?" I feel the tears swelling in my eyes, threatening to come out. "It's complicated." "We have 15 minutes till we're home, tell me." Jake takes a deep breath in. "Whentaraandiweretogethershewouldgaslightmesoijustlearnedtoalonebeliveherimsorry." Jake rambles and I laugh. "Jake slow down." I giggle. Jake smiles at me and nods. "When Tara and I were together, she would gaslight me, so I just learned to believe her. I'm so sorry." Jake's thumb rubs the inside of my thigh. "Jake?" He hums in response. "Can we never see her again?" Jake looks at me and nods. "Thank you." "No thank you." I look at him confused. "Thank you for thanking me." I laugh. Most people wouldn't know what that meant, but I know Jake.
