"mari?" jisung picks up on the first ring, not caring if it seems desperate. he was.

"hi." his body flooded with relief knowing it was her and not hongjoong.

"h-how are you?" he stutters. a stupid question, but his wonders were genuine.

"um... you know..." she trails off awkwardly. "i heard about your hiatus..." she quickly changes the subject.

"oh, you did?" he rolls his eyes at his own response.

"i— i figured you were struggling but... a hiatus?" she asks, wanting more of an explanation.

"its been really hard... i've not been able to keep up..." he admits, hoping he didn't sound like someone fishing for pity. he wasn't, he was just being honest.

"do you... do you wanna talk about it?" she asks.

"y-yeah! i'll um... where are you? i'll come to you." he nearly hopped off of his bed with excitement.

"i'm home, but jisung-"

"home home? like with your mom?" he asks.

"yes— but jisung, you shouldn't come here. my mom isn't your biggest fan right now." she tells him. he felt his heart drop at the fact. he loves your mom, and your mom loves him, he hated the idea that she wasn't sure about him anymore. god, he fucked up so bad.

"and if i come anyways?" he asks, trying to gauge the situation. was it really because of her mom, or did she not want him there?

"it's your funeral." she mumbles, but that was all the confirmation he needed. mari wanted him there, so he would be there.

"i'll see you soon." he tells her, preparing his plan to get her back. step one was already in progress. get to her. he was much better at conveying his emotions in person.

step two? he wasn't sure yet, but he knew by the time he got there, he would know step by step, everything he was going to do to win her back. he wouldn't let anything get in the way.

"mari, can i talk to you?" her mother asks, putting away the last bit of dishes.

"of course." she nods.

"you're already talking to jisung again?"

"i— how did you know that?" mari stutters.

"cause i just slammed the door in his face." her mother deadpans.

"you— he's here already?" she changes the subject, eyes darting to the foyer.

"don't change the subject. and don't tell me you've forgiven him already?" she asks, voice firm.

"i haven't." mari shakes her head. "but he's struggling right now and—"

"good. he deserves it after painting you some kind of stalker. the things i read about you online..." she pauses for a moment as she grimaces. "a mother should never have to read those things about her daughter."
