The rain fell softly outside, a gentle patter against the windowpane, as Carlos and you sat in silence in the cozy living room of your shared apartment. The atmosphere was heavy with unspoken tension, the weight of impending goodbye hanging thick in the air.

Carlos was fidgeting with his fingers, his eyes avoiding yours as he struggled to find the right words. Finally, he let out a heavy sigh and turned to you, his expression pained.

"I don't know how to say this, but... I think we need to talk," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Your heart sank at his words, a sense of dread settling in the pit of your stomach. You had feared that this moment would come, but that didn't make it any easier to bear.

"Okay," you replied, your voice barely a whisper as you braced yourself for what was to come.

Carlos took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to say. "I... I think we should break up," he said finally, his voice trembling with emotion.

The words hit you like a punch to the gut, leaving you reeling in disbelief. Break up? But... but you thought everything was going so well. You had spent the past year building a life together, sharing your hopes and dreams, and now it was all coming crashing down around you.

"Why?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper as tears welled up in your eyes.

Carlos looked away, unable to meet your gaze as he struggled to find the right words. "It's not you, it's me," he said finally, his voice tinged with regret. "I just... I don't think I can give you what you deserve."

You felt like you had been punched in the stomach, the pain of Carlos's words cutting deep into your heart. "But I love you," you whispered, your voice barely above a whisper as tears streamed down your cheeks.

Carlos's expression softened at your words, his own eyes filling with tears as he reached out to take your hand in his. "I love you too, but... but sometimes love isn't enough," he said softly, his voice filled with sadness.

For a moment, you sat in silence, the only sound in the room the soft patter of rain against the windowpane. The weight of Carlos's words hung heavy in the air, the finality of his decision crushing your hopes and dreams for the future.

"I wish we had more time," you whispered finally, the words catching in your throat as you struggled to hold back your tears.

Carlos's grip on your hand tightened, a silent acknowledgment of the pain you were both feeling. "I wish that too," he replied softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

As the rain continued to fall outside, you and Carlos sat together in silence, lost in your own thoughts and feelings. The realization that your relationship was over was like a dagger to the heart, leaving you feeling empty and broken inside.

In the days and weeks that followed, you tried to move on with your life, but the pain of losing Carlos was a constant ache that lingered in the depths of your soul. Everywhere you looked, you were reminded of him – the coffee shop where you used to meet for breakfast, the park where you took long walks hand in hand, the apartment you had shared together, now empty and devoid of warmth.

But amidst the pain and heartache, there was also a glimmer of hope – the hope that one day, you would find the strength to heal and move on, the hope that you would find someone who would love you as deeply and passionately as Carlos had once done.

And as you stood on the balcony of your apartment, watching the rain fall softly outside, you made a silent vow to yourself – a vow to never give up on love, no matter how much it hurt, and to always cherish the memories you had shared with Carlos, even as they faded into the past.

Yeah sorry to everyone who thought this would be a happy one... :)
