On the edge of Green Hill, a circus carnival has come to perform. It was none other than the T.W. Barker Circus, the greatest show on the planet. People come far and wide to see the performances and play his games. This evening, however, would be a show that no one would forget… no matter how hard they would try.

It began while the clowns were performing their merry act. Everyone laughed with glee. They exited the tent so the next act could take the stage. The audience waited and waited but nothing happened. In his place was a robot with a golden comedy mask and sharp metal hands. It wore a purple ringleader suit.

“Come one, come all!” He called out joyfully. “My name is Comitron and I will be your host for the foreseeable future. Prepare yourself for a show so great you'll never want to leave.”

The crowd could tell Comitron was a Badnik robot just by his menacing presence and happy voice with a sinister undertone. They fled in terror. However, the tent was surrounded by the performers in a hypnotic trance. The terrified audience was trapped.

“People! People! Please, return to your seats.” Comitron beckoned them. “We have something so good that you’ll never leave again.”

The next day in the Restoration HQ underneath Emeraldville ruins, the organization's leader, Amy Rose, had just finished her report on the battle between Sonic’s friends and Metal Sonic. A short calico named Felicia ran up to her as she was exiting her office. The feline was sweet and excited.

“Miss Rose! Are those about your adventure with Sonic?”

“Hehe, yeah.”

Felicia’s eyes sparkled. “Woooow.”

Amy smiled in response to the adulation. One of her subordinates, Topaz, ran up to her with an electronic tablet. She seemed to be hurrying to speak with Amy about something urgent.

“What’s wrong?” Amy asked worriedly.

“Ma’am, we have numerous reports of missing persons who did not return from a circus last night,” Topaz reported. “We sent scouts to investigate, but they disappeared too. We did get overhead images. You should see for yourself.”

In the operations room, Amy got to see what was the cause of her subordinate’s alarm. The T.W. Barker Circus had grown into a fortress overnight. It was a maze of carnival games and rides that looked exceedingly dangerous. The booths were set up like the inner structures of a pinball machine.

“Oh my chaos,” Amy gulped. “What did this?”

“We don’t know, but I am going to find out,” Topaz told her. “I have one of our best pilots ready to fly me in.”

“I’m going too.”

“With all due respect, I don’t need help.”

“I have to. I would call Sonic, but he said he had an important mission and I can’t distract him from it.”

“Fine. Follow me.”

In the hangar area, Amy and Topaz met with the pilot of the aircraft that would be flying them to the ‘Pinball Carnival Zone,’ a title given by Topaz for the area. The pilot was a female auburn falcon named Molly. She was accompanied by a reprogrammed E-Series Eggman robot named Search.

“So, ready to go to the circus?” She asked with a cocky smirk.

“Can the humor and just get us there in one piece,” Topaz ordered before boarding.

Amy was not so stern with the pilot. She shook her hand, told her “I’m glad to have you on this mission,” and then boarded too.

The aircraft rose out of the Restoration HQ and headed for the Carnival Pinball Zone. As they soared across the afternoon sky, Amy went into the cockpit and sat with Molly. The young pilot seemed confident and excited.

“I hope we see some action,” Molly admitted. “I don’t get to use the weapons on this thing.”

“I hope not,” replied Amy. “That might make the rescue mission complicated.”

“Of course. Of course.” Molly paused for a few long seconds. “What do you think happened?”

“Weird things come out of the steelwork every day. It could be that new villain Starline, a Badnik attack, or just ordinary thugs. We live in a weird, dangerous world.”

Topaz announced, “We’re here!”

Amy looked down and saw the large carnival surrounding the big circus tent. She would be in awe if she did not know what it truly was. As they got closer, fireworks exploded in dazzling colors. The sight made Amy’s eyes sparkle.

“Must be a celebration,” Molly guessed.

Suddenly, one of the fireworks hit the aircraft and exploded. The craft spun out of control. Topaz held on, but she fell out. Amy caught her, but the jackal’s hand slipped. Then Amy fell out as well. Finally, the craft crashed. The team was separated behind enemy lines. Who knows what could happen to them?
