Blood splattered, and I stared in shock at what I had done. Douma looked at me with nothing but hatred and disgust.

His gaze was ice-cold, freezing me in place. He hadn't been asleep at all.

At the last moment, he had raised his arm, and my knife, instead of slashing the mistress's throat, pierced his hand.

"Himari!"

Douma's voice made me tremble, and at that moment, I wished I had just stayed in my room.

His call had woken the mistress, and she gasped in shock when she saw my knife halted by Douma's hand, just inches from her face.

Douma shoved me to the ground and yanked the knife from his hand. Blood dripped from the blade, and I stared in disbelief at the hole in his hand, which closed up within seconds. How was this possible? Where had the wound gone?

"Douma," the woman said fearfully, her eyes fixed on the bloody knife.

"It's all right, sweetheart."

But his gaze remained ice-cold, fixed on me, and his voice was filled with disgust and hatred.

In less than a second, he was standing before me, the knife in his hand.

"Forgive me, please. My lord, please. Spare my life, I beg you."

"You should have thought of that before you tried to kill your mistress."

Pov Akina:

I needed a moment to gather my thoughts. Himari had tried to kill me, but luckily, Douma had stopped her. I sat on the bed, horrified by what had happened.

Himari begged for her life, but Douma raised the knife. I couldn't let that happen, so I jumped out of bed.

"Douma, don't do it," I pleaded, grabbing his hand.

"Please, don't. Let her live."

"She deserves to die," he said, gripping the knife tighter, his eyes never leaving Himari.

"Please, let it go. Do it for me. Please."

Only then did he look at me. Slowly, he lowered his hand and let the knife drop.

I stepped toward Himari, who was cowering in fear on the floor. She looked up at me with tear-streaked eyes, but I smiled and extended my hand to her.

"Himari, right?" She nodded.

"Come on. I'll take you back to your room."

Shaking, she took my hand and stood up. Douma glared after us as we left the room. As soon as we reached Himari's room, she broke down in tears again and threw her arms around me.

"I'm so sorry, my mistress. Please forgive me. I didn't mean to kill you. I don't know what came over me."

I gently stroked her head.

"Calm down, Himari."

"You saved my life, and I tried to take yours. I beg you, please forgive me. I was jealous of you because you had the lord's affection. I wanted to be in your place."

"I understand that. Love can drive us to terrible things. I forgive you."

Himari looked at me, incredulous.

"Thank you, my mistress. You saved my life. I can't thank you enough."

"Call me Akina."

"Thank you, Akina."

"Don't worry. I'll make sure Douma doesn't punish you."

"Thank you so much," she said, wiping away her tears.
