Chapter 3: A Mother's Concern
After a long day at the hospital, Neon sat down for a quiet dinner in her modest apartment. Just as she finished her meal, her phone rang, displaying her mother's name on the screen. With a sigh, she answered the call, knowing all too well what the conversation would entail.
"Hi Mom," Neon greeted, trying to sound cheerful despite her exhaustion.
"Neon, dear, how are you?" her mother's voice sounded through the phone, filled with concern.
"I'm fine, just tired from work," Neon replied, rubbing her temples.hoping to steer the conversation away from the inevitable interrogation about her love life.
That's good to hear, dear. Listen, I was just wondering...
There was a brief pause before her mother spoke again, her tone slightly hesitant. "Neon, have you found a boyfriend yet?"Neon sighed inwardly, bracing herself for the inevitable lecture. "Mom, you know I'm busy with my job and research work . I don't have time for dating."
Her mother's voice took on a note of worry. "But Neon, you're not getting any younger. I'm afraid you'll end up alone if you don't start looking for a husband soon,so find a good man and settled down. Men prefer younger women, you know."
Neon felt a pang of disappointment and frustration. "Mom, I'll find someone when the time is right. I can't just snap my fingers and make it happen."
Her mother's concern was palpable, even through the phone. "I just want what's best for you, dear. It's not healthy to be alone for so long."
Neon forced a small smile, despite her inner turmoil. "I know, Mom. I'll keep that in mind."
After saying their goodbyes, Neon couldn't shake off the weight of her mother's words. As she prepared for bed, the image of the mysterious white-haired man from her dream haunted her thoughts once again. She couldn't understand why she kept dreaming about him, but she pushed the unsettling thoughts aside, chalking it up to stress and exhaustion.
Falling into a fitful sleep, Neon once again found herself trapped in the grasp of her recurring nightmare. The white-haired man loomed over her, his eyes devoid of emotion as he ended her life with a chilling finality. As she drifted deeper into the darkness, Neon couldn't shake the feeling that her dreams held a deeper significance, one that she was only beginning to unravel.
