HERBIES VIEW 🏉the smell of sweat and gatorade wafted throughout the gym, as the guys worked hard. herbie laid on the bench and huffed and he tilted his head back, gripping his hands firmly on the bar he exhaled deeply and pushed it off it's stand before bringing it down to his chest and right back up again. he held his breath and bit his lip harder on each rep. his arms burned as he brought the bar close to his chest before breathing out and closing his eyes mustering his strength to try raise it up, his arms shook and he held his breath digging deep. before he could give in an extra set of hands held the bar and brought it to rest on its stand.
"what's that all about mate, lost your strength slacker" a young man said slapping herbie on the shoulder as he sat up.
"come on bro you can do 180 in your sleep"
"yea yea just warming up" herbie spat
reece smirked before turning away.herbie felt his heart rate slow as reece walked away. he knew he needed to tell reece about last night before he found out another way, it was only respectful as ali was his friend. but how would reece react, i mean herbie was doing it with well intentions, he barely even spoke to ali. in fact he didn't even say anything before he left, herbie had to train early so of course he wasn't gonna wake ali up, she'd find her own way out and maybe there'd be a message waiting for herbie after he finished training. he could only hope.
"oi reece" herbie motioned him over after they were clear from training.
reece grabbed his stuff and jogged over, both the men heading out of the centre.
"thought i'd let you know, your friend, ali, happened to be at the same bar as her last night"
reece's head nodded turning to fully look at herbie
"she was hammered and some guy was preying on her, she could barely even speak so i just took her to mine for the night, just so she was safe"
herbie swallowed hard waiting for his reply
reece shook his hand and laughed
"sounds like her, thanks mate. i'm sure she appreciates it"
herbie felt a wave of relief over him, glad this wasn't a big drama.
"yea didn't feel right leaving her with him, i think she might still be at mine now. she was asleep when i left"
"well hopefully she's not too hungover, she's supposed to watch leila tonight at the game"the boys chatted, both heading to their cars. herbie wondering on the drive back if ali was still there. i mean it was almost 12 so she had to have woken up by now, but maybe she waited. maybe she was sitting on his couch this second as eager as he was. but i mean why would she? they weren't even friends, why would she wait, why would she care. herbie shook it off, focusing on the road with the occasional thought of that girl.
unlocking the door to his apartment herbie let out a breathe before pushing open his door, throwing his bag down he traveled along the corridors, eyes darting into every corner and every room searching for any sign. he walked into his room to find nothing but a neatly made bed, folded to a level he couldn't even reach. while grabbing a glass of water herbie noticed a photo frame sitting on the couch, the white frame encased a photo of him, jordan and reece in the locker rooms all smiling at the camera. herbie felt a smirk cree across his face knowing exactly why ali picked this one up. flopping onto the couch he pulled out his phone and opened instagram. scrolling along his dms from his teammates to random girls he found the name he was looking for, her profile a photo of her arms in the air at the beach in a green bikini bringing out the green of her eyes and contrasting the long dense black hair hanging over her shoulders and perfect blowing across her face. he clicked on the chat and opened to the last and first time they spoke about a month ago, her asking him if he knew where jordan was,
"hey, do you happen to know where jordan is? he said he'd come to mine after training and still hasn't come so just wondering if it's gone on longer or anything."
"yea we finished a bit ago we're all just eating now"
"i can ask him to text you if you want""ohh no that's all good don't worry, thankyou though!"
"anytime"
herbie had told jordan that day, he knew he had forgotten. herbie admired ali's perfect grammar and polite manner. she was a sweet girl in person as well, it's why the whole team loved her. ali had no problem cooking the boys meals at training or before games and always showed up with gifts for every guy on their birthday, always cheering on them all after and during games when they won and always told them to keep their heads up after a loss. she was funny too, her laughed bounced around the room making everyone smile and even when the boys were down her bubbly personality brought them up. not to mention every guys kids loved her, she was the designated 'baby sitter' during games or training, basically whenever the kids were around they ran at her, she was a natural, good at everything she did. she was perfect. herbie irrationally started typing, never intending to send the message, he explained what happened last night. he was half way through writing when a message bubble popped up.
"fuck"
🌷ALIS VIEW 🌊
ali flopped onto her couch absolutely exhausted, her body was aching and her head was racing. she walked into her kitchen grabbing a single piece of white bread before stuffing it in her mouth and heading to her room to grab her purse hoping to find some panadol, except when she got to her room her bag was no where to be seen. roaming around her house she searched for her bag but pulled up empty handed. ali never remembered having her purse with her so she grabbed her phone and searched up herbies name on instagram. tapping on his profile she clicked message next to the friends button, opening to their last conversation. ali started typing before she realised he already was. but those three dots quickly disappeared, ali thought it must have been a glitch, why would he be messaging her?
"hey, i'm not sure what happened last night i can't really remember anything at all but i was just wondering if i left my bag at your place, or maybe it's at the club, but if you find it let me know, thanks"
ali looked at it for a minute before deleting the first part, i mean she was curious as to what actually happened, she had no idea. but maybe that was too forward.
"hey, i was just wondering if i left my bag at your place, or maybe it's at the club, but if you find it let me know, thanks"
she pressed send and exited the chat waiting nervously for his reply like a teenage girl.
