Wren felt a sense of rejuvenation wash over her as she slipped into the fresh clothes that Jungkook had given her. The oversized t shirt and sweatpants hung loosely on her frame, a stark contrast to the snug fit of her usual attire, but she welcomed the comfort they provided after their unexpected escapade on the lake.
As she made her way back into the living room, the soft glow of the setting sun filtering through the windows cast a warm golden hue over the cozy space. Jungkook was already seated on the couch, a gentle smile playing at the corners of his lips as he arranged the tea on the coffee table before them.
Wren couldn't help but feel a blush creeping up her cheeks as she approached, the memory of their intimate moment in the bathroom still fresh in her mind. She settled onto the couch beside him, the fabric of her oversized clothes bunching up around her as she tried to find a comfortable position.
"Thanks for the clothes," she said softly, her voice tinged with gratitude as she reached for one of the mugs of tea.
Jungkook nodded, his eyes warm. "Of course. I'm glad you're warm again."
As they sat there together, sipping their tea and watching the sun dip below the horizon, she stole glances at Jungkook and memories of the way he'd just kissed her moments ago in the shower came flooding back to her. She coughed a little on the tea she was drinking.
"So. . ." she said.
"So. . ."he said back, smiling at her. "Weird to be back home after living on your own in the city?"
Wren nodded. "It is weird that just a few weeks ago I was on the run and now I'm back home. Honestly it all feels like another lifetime."
"Are you going to keep staying with your parents?"
"I'm actually looking for an apartment," she said. "I want to be on my own as soon as possible."
"And how do they feel about that?"
She pursed her lips, and shifted a little on the couch. "I think they're okay with it. So far they haven't made any protests. I think they're just happy I'm not on the run anymore."
"I can imagine," he said, and Wren squirmed a bit with how serious his tone was while saying the words.
"I'm sorry. For just leaving like that. And for not coming back when you asked. I know you came all that way to find me and—"
"I understand, Wren," he said reaching out to touch her knee gently. "You don't need to apologize."
She sighed. "I've always been a bit impulsive. And It's something I've tried to work on over the years. But I think I'm just always in fight or flight you know? After what happened. . ." she paused. "After what happened I just think it's been hard to not feel anxious in everything that I do."
"I'm sorry," he said, brow furrowed."I wish I could help in some way."
"You do help," she admitted, looking down at her hands in her lap. "I let my guard down with you more than anyone I know."
"Really?" he asked and she looked up to see a surprise in his eyes. A little bit of smugness too.
She reached out and shoved his shoulder. "Don't get smug."
"I can't help it," he said reaching out to take her hand that had shoved him. He clasped it tightly and entwined their fingers. "I like knowing that I disarm you."
"Why?" she whispered, suddenly unable to speak at full volume.
"Because I think it's pretty beautiful when you let go with me," he said gently. All seriousness now. "I like knowing you're not thinking about anything else except for the way I make you feel." He leaned down to gently kiss her knuckles. "I feel accomplished knowing I've made you forget your past, even just for a moment."
