"Can you help me?" His voice comes out shaky and pained, threaded through with desperation. "Please, Nico. I do not know where else to go."
Nico catches the vampire prince as he stumbles forward. Gripping his arms tightly to keep him upright, he looks him over with concern, taking note of his injuries. The vampire stares up at Nico with dazed, pain filled eyes, shivering violently in his grasp. His long tangled hair falls across his face but doesn't hide the darkening bruise along his left cheek and temple, the gash on his forehead or his bleeding lip.
Never trust a vampire. Never be alone with one. Do not ever invite one into your home. These are rules taught to every young witch and repeated often. Vampires are dangerous. You can't trust them and even at their most vulnerable they are deadly. Nico knows this but he wavers. He is a healer and and this vampire is asking for his help.
"Please," he whispers again, his thin fingers gripping the fabric of Nico's shirt.
Nico's already fragile resolve shatters. He wraps an arm around the vampire's waist and pulls him inside. "It's okay. I'm going to help you. Everything will be okay."
As soon as they are shut in the house some of the tension leaves the vampire's body. His head drops against Nico's chest and his dark hair falls across his face, obscuring it from view. When Nico picks him up he lets out a soft groan of pain but he doesn't offer any resistance.
Nico carries him to a the dark green couch surrounded by tall plants in his main room. He lies the vampire down on it and he immediately sits up curling into himself like a hunted, wounded animal. When Nico reaches out a hand to examine his face he flinches away with wide eyed panic.
Nico pulls his hand back and takes a breath. "I'm not sure how much I'll be able to heal. Can you tell me where it hurts the most?"
The vampire looks away squeezing his hands together in an effort to stop their constant trembling.
"Lotus."
His head jerks up and he stares at Nico, surprise on his face at the sound of his name on the witch's lips. As if he expected Nico to have forgotten who he was.
"Tell me where it hurts." Nico says gently. "I want to help you."
Lotus swallows and his hand moves to his side. He's wearing a loose white shirt and he pulls it up on one side. There is a large, very dark bruise along his ribs as if he'd been slammed against something. Lotus sees the anger flash across Nico's face and flinches back. His shirt drops hiding the bruises again.
Nico closes his eyes. Calm down. The last thing he wants is to scare Lotus. He opens his eyes again. Lotus is still staring at him. He has curled as much as he can into the corner of the couch and his arms are wrapped protectively around himself. Pain shows in his face.
