Felicia

We were woken with quite the start. My father came storming into our room yelling, "Wake up we're late!" I almost crushed Colin when he did so.

We were in the air within a minute. My friend is still grumbling about wanting to sleep on my back. However the wind and balance I know will keep him from doing so.

It wasn't long until we approached up upon the volcano base.

"This is just going to be fun aye?" Colin says and I could assume he's looking at where the mountain disappears into a thick layer of cloud that stretches into the far horizon.

"Better than a cave a suppose," I hear him let loose a half hearted laugh.

Infitus leads us up a path facing away from most of the human city. Remove as many chances of being spotted as possible.

He was smaller. Our special blood made this especially easy for us to get past. A larger dragon would find it difficult to get past the humans unnoticed. Mother unfortunately was the one married into the blood. So she doesn't have the special genes that my father and I have.

Lucky for us she blends into the sky better. Even just slightly helps. The air grew thinner as we flew higher. I could feel Colin's breathing get heavier.

I look over my shoulder, "You alright there buddy?" I called out.

"Since when did you call me that," He laughs. But then taking a very deep breath.

"Since now."

He chuckles again, "Doing just fine Felicia. Could use some nice air though. But I should live."

He looks towards the submit, "Not much further."

With a frown I look forward. Worry slowly building up the higher we climb. But I assure myself, no harm will come to Colin. Most probably won't care. Humans and dragons share so many similarities. I could go for hours!

"Easy now," I hear my father call out as we approach the cloud blanket.

Much slower than before we break into the gray sheet of water. I instantly lost my sight and can only rely on my parents wing flaps to guide me. Of course we just fly near vertical to avoid hitting the mountain.
A lot more efficient if I do say so.

Colin's grip increased the moment we went in as well. Clearly nervous. Not that I blame him.

With a nervous laugh he says, "Gorgeous view ain't it?"

"Splendid!" I laugh.

It wasn't for a few more seconds before we breached the clouds. Instantly blinded by the blaring sun above. It's almost noon.

From the submit a large trail of smoke pours from the active volcano.

"Are you sure this is safe!?" I hear Colin try to call Infitus. But he was too far ahead and the wind drowned his voice.

I decided to repeat what he said to my father in a voice he could hear.

"Perfectly!" Dad yelled.

I could assume Colin huffed as he shuffled around on my back. Within a short while the top of the mountain came into view. And we quickly were higher than the land mass. The 3 mile long crater in the mountain is easily seen in full.
