in the past life, choi beomgyu was none but a ordinary guy who has a collection of cheesy pick up lines, has the power to make anyone's day better with his smile, and most importantly has the power to make the kang taehyun his. no one, in a hundred years would think that choi beomgyu, a bubbly, smiley and a cute dorky guy committed suicide by willingly jumping in front of a truck coming at a high speed at late midnight, under the heavy downpour. though the people around the place managed to take him to the hospital but the injury done to his head was too fatal. his heart stopped beating and he was declared dead at around 2.05 am.

choi beomgyu was depressed.

the news was almost like an attack to everyone who knew him. for kang taehyun, it was almost as if his whole world stopped existing. he was devastated, out of words. and it happened out of no where.

taehyun was lying down on his bed while wearing a headset to avoid hearing the sound of the thunderstorms, trying his best to sleep yet something or the other keeps him awake, be it the thunderstorms or the ticking sound of the clock.

his phone suddenly rang which startled him. not sparing a glance at the caller id, he picked up -

"are you kang taehyun?"

"uh yes? who's this?"

"can you come to the main seoul hospital? like right now?"

"why?"

"choi beomgyu was caught up in a road accident and his condition is critical. i'm his frie-"

no. no. no. it must be a joke right? taehyun couldn't comprehend any of that. the phone slipped out of his hands which were shaking suddenly and he didn't even realise he had tears falling from his eyes. he got up from his bed.

"mOM- MOM!!!", he cried out, his heart beating faster than ever.

yet jihyeon never failed to hear his cries and ran towards him. she entered his room to see a crying taehyun, confused as to why he's acting this way.

"taehyun!? what's the matter"

"b-beomgyu", he managed to make out the words.

"what about him?"

"h-he had an a-accident. i-it was critic-", that was it. he couldn't say any further. his breathing was ragged.

"okay", jihyeon could make out what has happened, she was silently crying too. beomgyu was one of those few guys, she absolutely adored like her own child. she embraced taehyun, patting his back.

"do you want to visit him?"

taehyun nodded weakly, too tired to utter anything. they didn't waste anymore time. taehyun wanted to see him as soon as possible, praying that he would be okay.

but things didn't turn out that way.

at the hospital, when they found out about beomgyu's room, they saw his family members, wailing. taehyun could make out that something bad happened, something that he wasn't ready for.

"taehyun.", it was kai, his eyes were red as well, he had been in there as well.

kai ran to hug taehyun.

"k-kai. he's okay right?"

huening kai pulled out from the hug, trying to look into taehyun's eyes.

"taehyun. he's dead. he killed himself by jumping infront of a truck."

no. no. no. no. it can't be. beomgyu isn't dead. his sunshine, his reason to smile, his reason to laugh, he's not dead. he cannot do it. it's just a nightmare. taehyun, you have to wake up-

"the doctor declared him dead a few minutes ago", kai said.

that's it. taehyun fell weak on his knees and he would've collapsed on the floor if his mom and kai weren't holding onto him.

if only taehyun hadn't fought with him, be there for him instead, maybe he would have been able to save his boyfriend. he didn't deserve beomgyu. a wave of guilt spread over in his body.

a week before, taehyun and beomgyu had a fight near the backyard of their college. well it was mostly taehyun snapping at him.

"it isn't fair beomgyu", taehyun said with a cold tone and it would be one of those rare times when he called beomgyu by his name and not just 'gyu'.

"please try to understand. i have no other choice"

"but- BUT YOU PROMISED. YOU PROMISED THAT WE'LL BE TOGETHER FOR THE TIME BEING"

"tae-"

"can't you drop that stupid plan of yours already?!?!", taehyun's voice got shaky.

"i can't. i'm sorry"

"w-why?"

"i have to"

"y-you", taehyun reached his breaking point and he couldn't hold his tears anymore yet beomgyu stayed fixed at his place, his head hung low.

"you could've just told me you don't care about me anymore", taehyun uttered between his sobs.

"tae, i care about you. but i need to do this"

"stop. STOP LYING. YOU CARE ABOUT THAT STUPID EXAM MORE THAN ANYTHING!"

"i'm sorry"

"please never show me your face, ever again", with this, taehyun turned back, moving his legs forward with tears falling from his eyes continuously.

"taehyun please", beomgyu's voice was shaky as well, he had been silently crying. he didn't want to do this, he didn't want to leave taehyun, afterall taehyun was his entire world, but he would fail life if he failed in that exam, he would fail his parents that always favoured his younger brother. everyone would make fun of him. he would go nowhere in life if he didn't pass the examination.

so he had no choice.

taehyun continued to walk under those gloomy streetlights and under the unusual cold air in the evening. the leaves were moving along with the wind.

"taehyun!"

but taehyun didn't turn back, he walked forward and that was the last time, he ever saw beomgyu. he never intended to contact him, though he would see almost 7 missed call from 'gyu' but he could never pick up.

and beomgyu failed that examination.

taehyun never knew that beomgyu was depressed because beomgyu was perfect at hiding it. i mean how would anybody know that a cheerful, bubbly guy can be depressed too? taehyun never saw him cry, because when beomgyu does cry, he would be inside a bathroom, all alone, away from everything and everyone.

at beomgyu's funeral, almost everybody was miserable. his mother was crying frequently, sometimes to that point where she would pass out. probably because of the guilt. beomgyu's parents were never supportive of him. beomgyu loved to draw yet his parents would always say that he would have no career if he became an artist. they never tend to show beomgyu any type of affection.

and taehyun failed to know any of that since beomgyu was perfect at hiding.

and for the next two years, kang taehyun remained miserable. his mom moved to australia two months after beomgyu's funeral since she got promoted. but taehyun yearned to be in korea so he along with kai, rented a house for a cheap price.

and sometime after, taehyun somehow travelled back in time, four years back after being killed by his colleague.

he could relive all those four years which had been like a hell to him.

but fate was interesting.

and taehyun was determined to save beomgyu, no matter what.
