𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃...the piano keys, dust clutching onto the very tips that swept over them.

The young girl took in a deep breath, closing her eyes as she began to play.

Sweet music filled the room dancing around in the air. Every trace of the world forgot as the girl played.

She played on and on embracing the very moment. Slowing down, the music that had filled the room a moment ago, faded away.

A silent salty tear ran down her cheek, washing away some dust that had been carried to her face as she had played.

The door opened. The girl looked up and quickly wiped away the tear.

"Miss Adelaide, your mother would like a word." Said an old man with wispy grey hair that had been combed down. The girl nodded and got up.

The Manor House stood proudly in the British countryside. Home to the Carmines.

Adelaide walked into the lounge. Her mother was sitting down sewing, and Duke was sleeping on a fluffy rug next to a roaring fire.

"Ah, Adelaide. Sit." She said, patting a space next to her. Adelaide sat down and looked up at her mother.

"Tomorrow, we are hosting a ball, I would love it if you could go down into town with Edward to get yourself a gown for the ball. As you know, you are at the age where you should be looking for love." Mrs Carmine spoke delicately.

"Yes, mother, I will go and get my boots and get Edward." Adelaide said as she got up and walked out of the room.

As soon as she was out of her mother's sight, she slouched and mimicked her mothers words.

"Have to go the ball, have to get a dress, have to get married."

"Mother said I had to take you to town to get a dress." A posh voice pronounced.

The brunette girl immediately straightened her posture as she turned to look at her older brother.

Aidelade strolled down the streets with Edward looking for a dress shop. At last, she spotted a small shop located next to a dark alleyway.

Edward waited outside as she went in. A bell tinkled softly as she opened the door. An old woman rushed over.

"Hello dear, what can I get for you today?" She asked.

"A ball gown, please." Adelaide said. The woman guided her to a seat and smiled as she briskly walked around looking for a dress.

She came back to Adelaide and handed her a dress to try on. The top half had a tight corset with cream coloured short sleeves.

The bottom had layers piled up on top of each other.

Adelaide thanked the old lady and gave her some notes. She went out, and Edward nodded to her, then slowly they made their way back up to the house.

Adelaide sat down under an old pine tree. The scent of sap loomed around the air.

She kicked off her shoes and opened her book. She looked up occasionally to take in the beauty of the lake in front of her with a forest of trees surrounding it.

All the birds and wildlife dart around. She smiled and went back to reading.

Clarice came skipping up to her. Adelaide looked up at her.

Clarices chubby face looking at her. She stuck her thumb in her mouth and sat next to Adelaide leaning against her shoulder, squashing her brown ringlets.

Adelaide put down her book and put on her shoes. She picked up Clarice and her book and started walking back up to the Manor House.

Clarice jumped out of her arms and ran to her nanny. Mrs Carmine called out.

"Go get ready!" Adelaide rolled her eyes and ran up to her room. She put on the dress with the help of Alice, the head of maids.

She struggled into her dress and did up her hair. Alice left, and Adelaide was left alone in her room.

She heard the guests arrive. Adelaide didn't dare go down. She found balls frightfully boring. Alice bustled in again.

"Mrs Carmine says you must come down soon, or the ball will be over!" She said breathlessly.

The young girl simply nodded before getting up and walking behind Alice to the beautifully decorated ballroom.

Adelaide walked in and went over to a small corner. A boy around her age was standing there with a scowl.

She gave him a smile. His scowl vanished as he smiled back.

"I dare say this ball is dreadfully boring!" He whispered.

"My mothers hosting it." The girl replied. The boys face went red.

"But yes, it is rather." She said, grinning. The boy grinned back.

"How come you're here? Can't you stay in your room?" The boy asked.

"I would, but mother says I'm at the age where I should come." Adelaide replied. The boy nodded.

"My name is Mattheo. But you can call me Theo." He said.

"Pleasure. My name is Adelaid. But you can call me Addie." She responded.

Mrs Carmine waltzed over with some other middle aged lady's. They were giggling and pointing.

"Adelaide dear, who's this fine young fellow?" Mrs Carmine slurred.

"Mattheo." Adelaide said with a trace of coldness. Mrs Carmine curtised. Theo bowed.

Adelaide tried to hide a giggle. Mrs Carmine strutted away with her friends.
