ELEANOR JONES used to wish for a family. When she was seven she wished she hadn't hoped so hard. They yelled and threw things, and even though they always acted nice towards her after their anger had faded, it didn't feel like they meant it.

Eleanor was nine that she found out that wasn't what a normal family was supposed to be like and was moved in to another foster home. In her opinion, her new carers where just as crazy as her previous ones- although she did appreciate the lack of arguing and shouting. They carried out surprise searches every few days where they would confiscate any items they deemed 'unfit' or 'dangerous' to a ten year-old. These items included a box of coloured pencils because 'you could gouge your eye out with the pointy side!'  and a friendship bracelet she was given by a girl in her class because 'I can practically see your hand turning blue from the tightness, you don't want to lose a hand now, do you Eleanor?'

The Jones girl was quickly removed out of the household when the police were called by a neighbour because of a story involving a car, a lamppost, a dog, and a series of events that Eleanor legally wasn't allowed to repeat.

Not only were some her carers fucking insane, they were all muggles. It caused some trouble when on her eleventh birthday a letter came through the door spouting some bollocks about Eleanor being a witch. At first she didn't believe it, however she was pretty much sold when a lady in a forest green robe came to the door and sent a cup flying across the room.
