Your POV:
"What's your name, child?" I ask the crying kid.
"Do-un", he says, sniffling.
"Okay, Do-un, calm down first", I tell him, when I see he is unable to speak due to sniffling. I sit down on my knees to be his level and caress his head. "Take a deep breath in; now leave it; again, breathe in; now let it out. Good. Have you calmed down?"
He nods with a tear-stained face.
Taehoon also sits next to me and asks him gently, "Are you sure your mother isn't breathing?"
"Yes; I am. She wasn't waking up no matter what, so I checked near her nose... and no air was coming", he sobs again.
I look at Taehoon, and so does he. We nod to each other.
I look back at Do-un and say, "Will you take us to your mother?"
He nods and says, "Follow me."
Then, he begins running and we waste no time in following him. I'm not sure whether anyone will notice our absence, but this is of the utmost importance. We must save his mother, but before making any steps, we have to check for ourselves if she really isn't breathing.
Within a few minutes' span, we reach the South Port; at least that's what it seems. Huts and huts everywhere, which seem to be in terrible condition. A broken building some distance away. Everything looks dirty. There's trash everywhere. Overgrown plants. Just unpleasant in general. Quite contrasting to where we came from. And this is just the beginning point of South Port. Who knows how bad it is inside?
"That's my house", says Do-un, pointing at one of the many huts. We run there quickly.
Entering the hut, there's obviously no light. I ask Taehoon to switch on his flashlight. We find Do-un's mother, lying on the bed, facing above. I hurriedly walk to her and sit on the bed beside her.
I check her breathing, then her pulse. I tell Taehoon grimly, "She... is not breathing and has no pulse."
Taehoon's eyes widen. "That means she's dead."
"Well, yes, technically she is. But we can try to revive her. Taehoon, call the ambulance quick, and as soon as you're done, help me with CPR."
"Yes", he says, with urgency in his voice, and as he begins to dial the number, I perform hands-only CPR on the mother.
Soon enough, Taehoon is done with the ambulance call, and comes towards me.
"Do you know how to do mouth-to-mouth?" I ask him, not stopping the hands-only.
"No, although I do know hands-only CPR."
"Great. You do this, I'll do mouth-to-mouth", I tell him, and we switch roles. Now he's doing the chest compressions, while I am trying to bring back air to Do-un's mother.
I keep checking the pulse and breathing often. After fifteen minutes of our efforts, I am overjoyed when I feel a faint pulse beneath my fingers, on her neck.
"Taehoon, stop. Her pulse is back", I tell him, and he stops and checks her pulse as well. He smiles at me. When I check her breathing, I feel content that she's breathing as well, albeit lightly.
"Be alert, Taehoon. Until the ambulance comes, we have to make sure her pulse and breathing's there. Since it is present right now, we need not do anything. But since it's very faint, it's possible it might disappear again, in which case we'll again have to perform CPR. Ok?"
He nods at me.
As we are on the look-out for any change in her state, by constantly checking her vitals, the sound of a siren is heard. The ambulance is here.
