The class gathers on the front steps of the museum, where they can watch the foot traffic along Fifth Avenue. Overhead, a huge storm brews, with black clouds.
Sereia: I figured maybe it is global warming or something, because the weather all across New York state has been weird since i got here. We'd had massive snow storms, flooding, wildfires from lightning strikes. I won't be surprised if this is a hurricane blowing in. But nobody else seems to notice.
The gods glare and shake their heads at Zeus and Poseidon.
Some of the guys are pelting pigeons with Lunchables crackers. Nancy Bobofit is trying to pickpocket something from a lady's bag, and, of course, Mrs Dodds isn't seeing a thing. Grover and Sereia sit on the edge of the fountain, away from the others.
Grover: Detention?
Sereia: Nah. Not from Brunner. I just wish he'd lay off me sometimes. I mean - I'm not a genius.
Grover stares at her.|Sereia: He looks as if he is going to give me some deep philosophical comment to make me feel better.|
Grover: Can I have your apple?
They laugh and Grover blushes. "I'm Sorry, Reia" "It's all right G-man" she laughs.
Sereia: I didn't have much of an appetite anyway, so I let him take it.
"I've noticed that. You aren't eating much are you?" asks Persephone, frowning at Sereia. "It's gotten better since I'm not living that long with the Dursley's anymore." says Sereia. Many frown. "What do you mean?" asks Remus worried. "I don't get much food at the Dursley's if even anything." says Sereia and her family glares. What no one but Sereia notice is conflict flashing in Toms eyes. Suddenly a bowl filled with cereal appears in Sereia's lap. She turns to Demeter who stares at her. Sereia shrugs and begins to eat.
Sereia gives him her apple before watching the stream of cabs going down Fifth Avenue.
Sereia: I want to go to aunt Sally's apartment, only a little ways uptown from where we sit, so badly. I haven't seen her since I've got to New York. I want so bad to jump in a taxi and head there. She'd hug me and be glad to see me, but she'd be disappointed, too. She'd send me right back to Yancy, remind me that I have to try harder, even if this is my second muggle school and I was probably going to be kicked out again. I won't be able to stand that sad look she'd give me.
Mr Brunner parks his wheelchair at the base of the handicapped ramp. He eats celery while he reads a paperback novel. A red umbrella sticks up from the back of his chair, making it look like a motorized café table.
Leo and Hephaestus looked interested and pulls out a notebook.
Sereia is about to unwrap her sandwich when Nancy Bobofit appears in front of her with her friends.
Sereia: I guess she'd gotten tired of stealing from the tourists
Nancy dumps her half-eaten lunch in Grover's lap.
Nancy: Oops.
She grins at Sereia with her crooked teeth.
