Stephanie's confidence bordered on cockiness, but when she stood toe-to-toe with Meredith Grey, she felt a twinge of apprehension. As her fingers danced around her locker, placing her possessions inside, she heard the faint conversation of the interns around her. She could make out some of the words, but the majority of it remained a garbled mess, except for a few critical words that struck a chord inside her.

"Nazi," she heard one voice say. "My resident," another answered. The whispers and murmurs grew louder as the voices neared her, the words gradually becoming clearer to the now tense Stephanie. She turned her head to the side as she noticed a familiar face talking.

"Only seven women out of twenty." Meredith said almost apprehensively to the other woman that she was talking to, her dirty blonde hair falling in front of her face. Stephanie turned her head back to her locker as her eyes met meredith's, her jaw clenched. The other woman, being Cristina, sighed in annoyance, closing her locker door shut as she replied.

"Yeah. I hear one of them's a model. Seriously, like that's going to help with the respect thing?" Stephanie smirked as she heard the reply from across the room. A few moments later, Cristina spoke to Meredith again.

"Which resident you assigned to? I got Bailey." Cristina said. As Stephanie heard the mention of the name Bailey, she paid closer attention to the conversation. Cristina seemed okay, she didn't mind spending her intern year with her. she decided to pay attention to the reply, praying to herself that Meredith didn't have Bailey too.

"The Nazi? Yeah, me too." Meredith replied. As soon as she heard it, Stephanie took a sharp breath in. She closed her eyes for a minute. She couldn't believe it. Out of all the chances, Meredith had the same resident as her. Throughout the morning, the two med school enemies chose to ignore each other but she knew that couldn't be sustained, now that they would be working together for a whole year.

"You got the Nazi? So did I. At least we'll be tortured together, right? I'm George O'Malley, uh, we met at the mixer, you had a black dress with a slit up the side, strappy sandals..." A boy from another locker said as he approached Meredith and Cristina. This time, Stephanie closed her locker door and turned towards the conversation, crossing her arms. She was now looking at Meredith and Cristina who were both exchanging looks and silently judging George. Meredith sent a glance towards Stephanie as she noticed her watching, but only for a split second as she turned back to George, keeping a neutral face which made Stephanie furrow her brows in annoyance.

"Now you think I'm gay." George mumbled, a little less enthusiastically than he had spoken a few seconds ago. Meredith turned to her locker silently as Cristina nodded.
"No, I'm not gay, it's, ah, it's just that, you know, you were, I mean, you were very, unforgettable" George tried to tell the girls, who were now more focused on looking in their lockers than judging George. Suddenly, the sound of the intern locker room door opening caused a wave of silence to interrupt. A doctor appeared with a clipboard, which he looked down at whilst he read names to the room of interns.
